Default Rear end gasket

Hey everyone got a quick one for you ....I was walking to my car and noticed the rear end had leaked some fluid out and a piece of gasket was hanging out.....

To replace that gasket all I have to do is unbolt and put new gasket on and bolt up and refill with fluid right?

Nothing special right?

Thanks merry Christmas !!!!

Alot of ford cars and trucks don't use a gasket .. They use RTV silicone .. Your local ford dealer should have it in stock make sure it's the gray in color silicone

The gray is rated at a higher heat resistance and that's what we use at the Ford dealer I work at and just seems to seal better

Awesome man! Thanks so much for the info! I can do this myself sounds easy enough. I just wasn't sure if they a 01 gt would use both rtv and a gasket I guess I could call Dallas mustang and ask if that car uses both .

And don't I have to put it on and let set for 10 minutes then can bolt it back up then after an hour it's drive able again?

After I put fluid in it of course.

Make sure you get the surface 100% clean and wait for the RTV to dry before you put oil back in. It's a pain, but it's the best way to prevent leaks.

I picked up a gasket from Late Model Restoration:
Diff Gasket
I'll be installing it in the next couple of days.

you dont need a gasket. take the cover off, use a razor blade to clean the mating surfaces.. run an new bead of sealer and be on your way

Not sure of gray, but the orange is the copper rtv and rated for 750 degrees, even the black stuff would be fine on a rear.

Clean is key, that's probably why it's leaking. Whoever did it last didn't clean it well enough. I agree with this 100%.

This^ Take the gasket and sling it in the front yard. Clean the surfaces well, maybe use some brake clean and let the rtv dry as said before refilling. Very simple job, just make sure your torque the cover bolts back to factory spec.
