switching gauge cluster

switching gauge cluster
I need to switch my gauge cluster out because the speedometer is off and the faces are all messed up from white face gauges that were on there before so i was wondering if the mileage stays the same if i get a whole new gauge cluster or do i have to swap out parts from the old cluster to the new one.

youre going to have to swap out the circuit board from your old cluster onto the new one. The mileage is help in the cluster as well as the PATS system so switching the circuit board is necessary.
Did you calibrate your speedo after you got your gears? Because putting gears in will change the speedo, a tuner can be used to fix it.
When it comes to switching the boards be sure not to touch anything on the board, youre gonna take the cluster out, take the back cover off and you'll see the board, it covers the whole cluster. It sits on pins so you have to slide it off the pins and unplug the speedo sensor connection on the bottom of the board. After that you just have to put the circuit board on the new cluster and reconnect the speedo sensor connector.
It was actually a lot easier to do than i though it was gonna be, just be sure to take your time.

The PATS module is a component of the instrument cluster electronics, and it is "married" to the PCM via a security ID (SID) programmed into both at the factory. Therefore when switching clusters you have to swap the flexible circuit board as well. Do not be too paranoid about static electricity unless you live somewhere in which the relative humidity is very low, 40% or less. In such a climate wear a grounded wrist strap...

Cliffy basically told me how to do it, and it was a lot easier than i thought it would be. I wouldnt be too nervous about it.
The question i have is, did you tune the car to recognize that you have 4.10's instead of the stock 3.27's? Because if you didn't then that is why the speedo is off.
You still might want to change them because of them being messed up from the overlays, but without a tune then the speedo will still be off

yeah i did tune it for the 4.10 gears. they are still like 5 mph off because i had to take them off for the white face gauges and now they have glue all over them and they look horrible. i was looking at american muscle and the instructions to installing the simco gauges and it should be the same to installing any other gauge cluster.
