camshaft timing
i have a question and i asked 2 shops around town and got different answers so heres my question.....
on my cam card it says degree intake lobe to 115.
my left head is degreed at 119 degrees and right head is degreed at 113 degrees.
so for my left head would i advance or retard my timing by 4 degrees to get it to 115 degrees and advance or retard my right head by 2 degrees to get that also at 115 degrees..
thanks for the help. i went to 2 places and one said to advance 4 and the other shop said to retard 4

Those are obviously lobe centerline--valve fully open, after top dead center (ATDC)--numbers; so the 119° number for the left head means that the valve is being fully opened too late; taking until 119° ATDC instead of at 115° ATDC. I.e. the cam needs to be advanced, relative to the crankshaft, so that it will be fully opened sooner at 115°.
On the right head, as is, the valve is fully opened at 113° ATDC--too soon--it should not be fully open until 115°. That cam needs to be retarded (again relative to the crankshaft) so that the valve is not fully open until 115° ATDC.
