4.6 PI swap vs 5.4 2v
Looking for opinions, long story short trading my 01 cobra for a clean 98 GT, 04 GSXR, and some cash. I've only driven one non-PI 4.6 mustang and it was a complete dog. The one im getting is in great condition but has just under 100k mile, the 4.6 is a great engine in regards to longevity in this trim but I know as soon as I start driving it i'll miss the pick up the cobra had. So my question is should I bother doing a PI swap, cam, and longtubes, or leave it stock and start putting together a 2V 5.4 for when the engine finally succumbs to old age. From what I've seen they will have similar max output but im going to assume the 5.4 would have a much better torque curve. I've read that there is really only two options for intake manifolds, either adapter plates that put the injectors in a less than desirable position or the HPS manifold. I've also found only one company that makes a longtube to fit the 5.4 swap.

Personally, I would go with a set of pi heads and a street friendly cam set, something like a stage 1 or 2. The pi heads will bump compression to a little over 10 to 1 which will compliment the cams. This will be a good street pounder and cruiser. The 5.4 isn't a bad idea but more work and money. Or you could pick up a mark viii engine and be 4v again.

Yeah that's my dilemma at the moment. The 5.4 would be a neat thing to have, the PI swap with some good cams will net similar outputs with less time invested. lol yeah I could have had a low mileage mark VIII a month ago but passed on it. Another question if anyone knows, are the stock 2v heads on the 5.4's the same as the PI heads?

I wonder why there isn't a redline on the tachometers of the 5.4 equipped trucks I've seen &/or owned?
My 'flying by the seat of my pants' gameplan has been to replace my 4.6 after it takes a dump with a 5.4.
More & bigger is always better, right?

Oh for sure! I have a 400 sbc at the machine shop to replace my 305 in the 1986 c10. But im not sure if the added weight of the 5.4 will be overcome by the added torque. I have seen this debate a few times and the horsepower wasn't much more but the low end torque was. I think its more of a personal preference thing.

Well this thread is irrelevant now, the guy drove 300 miles only to find out that he is to attached to his mustang to trade it. Oh well thanks for the input anyway guys. Anyone feel like buying a low mileage 01 cobra lol.
