Default Buying a Mustang GT

Hello guys, I first would like to say that I'm new to this forum and very excited about purchasing a 2000 Mustang GT with 139,000 miles on it for $5k.

Also, I 'm new to the mustang world and hope you guys can give me some pointers about some issues i may run into with this much mileage such as, reliability, durability, problems, annoyances, pros and cons.

Thanks.

these 4.6 modular motors are very nice and strong as long as they were taken care of... do you have a car fax report or something that shows all the maintenance was done at regular intervals?

I would perform some maintenance when you get the car home.. oil change, tranny fluid change, fuel filter, spark plugs, etc

See what kind of intake manifold it has on it. If its plastic it very well could break.

Well, I don't have its CarFax. But the clutch was done at around 80000mi, new upgraded intake manifold at 97,000, newer coolant change, newer coil packs, and a newer belt.

Yes, i usually always do a full flush when i buy a second hand vehicle. You just never know what the other owner is running in it.

He means that Ford up until the 2001 mid model year I believe had a full plastic intake. Even for the coolant crossover. Which are more prone to cracking. I have an 04' and I have the newer aluminum cross over , but mine cracked about 2 months ago. The plastic under the crossover pipe just fell apart and I had a coolant leak. Good in theory just bad idea.

If you have access to a lift, check all moving parts, fluids, bushings, etc. Also check for uneven tire wear. Test drive and go through all the gears, including reverse, and check for odd noises. Make sure all buttons/switches functions. Also take a "negative nancy" with you. They wont be as excited and will nit pick everything.

Interesting, great info. I guess that is why he had replaced the old intake.

These cars are work horses. Only thing I've had go on mine in the last 5 years has been the fuel pump... Nothing else has really been a problem with this car...
