Technology is a wonderful thing. Always buy the latest generation you can afford for a daily driver.

That's a good call.
I actually did a little more research and found a few 05 GT's selling for $13000 with low mileage (less than 100,000 kms).
Mind you they they the base GT meaning no leather, but I can deal with that!

I have driven an 04 edge GT 5 speed - it was a fun car but it didn't really feel all that fast. I'm sure with some mods it would make it more fun, but at that point if I am spending the money to modify a 2V I am better off spending a little more and getting an S197

My friend just bought my 05 that I sold 3 years ago to get my 04 (small world). I babied that car. He just bought it with 61k very clean car for $13,560 so they are out there. All I did to it was muffler delete , K&N CAI and rims and tires and just with the 300hp 3v he's in love with it.

If your gonna buy something GET EVERYTHING you want. Do not have buyer remorse. These cars came with very little extras and I would deff. buy one with leather etc... just for a value/re sale standpoint.

Keep in mind you can get a pretty nice bone stock SN95 that has been pampered for 7-9k, still be under budget for the car and drop some more money on bolt ons. The 3v is going to have a lot more potential and comes stock with more hp than a stock 2v. If you find a s197 10-12k it is either a great deal or has descent miles on it. I enjoy working on my car (let me rephrase that, MODDING my car) but you may not. But I would say test drive both of them.

about $2k in bolt on for an SN95 really wakes those cars up a lot. You'd be suprised what a catback and a CAI with a proper tune can do.

Plus the 2V GT 4.6L engine is a work horse if taken care of properly. Plus OP you said you weren't worried about the track, so speed shouldn't be an issue the cars do 0-60 respectively and they get as good a gas mileage as the 5.0 does in the 13.

My 2000 vert after tuning it up and new coil packs I can get between 25-28 mpg per road trip. The best my 2013 5.0 gets is 25 in the automatic. Gas Mileage doesn't bother me... it's a stang... but in case your conscience gets the best of you about gas prices... the 99-04 GT is decent car with decent mileage considering its engine. Plus the money you'll save is always nice as it leads to modding, which becomes a habit, and it won't matter what year stang you own, once you start modding you become addicted. So save some coin, pick up a used 99-04 coupe use that extra cash to spruce it up performance wise and appearance wise.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't be buying a GT Mustang for the gas mileage...but I do plan on making it my daily driver during the spring/summer/fall and I do a lot of highway driving on my daily commute to work. I'm sure decent gas mileage would play a big factor. 25-28 mpg is ridiculous! Do you have stock gearing? Which mods do you have on your SN95?

The SN95 has a BBK TB and CAI, Granatelli Coil Packs, it is lowered, runs 18x9 18x10 combo... A couple of other items, nothing major.

I had my 2001 Bullitt and my 2008 GT at the same time for around two years. Really liked both of them, but in the end the S197 just did everything better than the New Edge/SN95. It handled better, was more comfortable for daily driving and trips, was faster, etc. I loved the Bullitt, but ended up selling it and using the money to pay off my '08 GT.
