Default 96 Mustang Gt Temperature Gauge Not Working!!

Alright, well since I'm pretty new to the whole fixing cars thing, I'll try to be as clear as possible. I had to replace the ECT Sensor on my 96 GT. Since I was doing that, I figured I'd replace the another sensor which is located on a similar looking location as the ECT. It's the one that also looks similar to the ECT sensor but is a little bit bigger. I changed them and disconnected the battery so that I could remove the check engine light which had told me to replace the ECT. Now it seems that the Temperature gauge does not work! It was working before I replaced the ECT and now it does not move whatsoever and stays at COLD (C) and doesnt rise to the middle even after a driving for a while. I tightened it pretty snug, not too tight. And the wiring is connected to the sensor securely. Could there be a short in the wiring? Or could it be that the other sensor i replaced isn't the right one and thats the one for the temp gauge? Pls help. I really don't know too much about these things and seeing as I dont have much money, alll I can really do is fix it myself!

Try and install the old sensor first. If the gauge works, then the sensor was wrong or bad.

If you ground the wire your gauge will read hot that will check circuit if it reads hot then the wire and gauge works if it does not read any thing then you have a open wire or your gauge went bad. Now if it works then your sensor is bad or you have a air pocket under the sensor.
