If the $1,400.0 quote includes a carrier, Gears, bearing, shims and seals that's not ridiculous a carrier alone can be $500.00 to $600.00.

I did my own and it cost me just about $400.00, i completely removed the axle, cleaned and painted everything, replaced bolts. I had to buy an additional quart of gear oil the two i got with the kit was not enough.

I bought a kit from AM but if i had to do it again i would just buy the gears and source the bearing, shims and seals elsewhere. (NAPA)

All the kits are not the same, make sure you know what your getting

Forgot, i have an automatic and wish i would have got the 410's rather than the 373's this was the biggest power gain out of everything i have done to this car.
