So what do you guys think it would take to smoke a C6 vette, without going the forced induction route? I think it should be our civic duty as mustang enthusiasts to aspire to be the top dog in the struggle for american muscle dominance. ( sorry if that was too much-gettin a little lit!)
The C6 will drive circles around you but you have do take baby steps. First you need to beat a C5 which still has more horsepower and better weight. You have to crawl before you walk.

A broken C6 or a new crate engine.
+1 - It has nothing to do with ego just facts. You specifically said 'without forced induction'. I don't care what anyone else tells you in this thread the fact is equal drivers, the GT will lose everytime to the C6 without forced induction (and a descent set-up at that).

No car is 'out of our league' but be realistic. You need mods to compete...period - and you WILL need them to compete with the new camaro as well.

i agree it will take plenty of work and mods, but i totally disagree on needing forced induction. i ran right with one from 40-120 with fewer mods than i have now, with traction issues until 60ish. the "works" as far as bolt-ons, some serious gearing, and a good dyno tune is more than enough IMO. now, as i said earlier in the thread, add a 75 shot and it will upgrade you to the "smoke a c6" category. all of this is assuming a stock vette though of course, which is what the original poster was after i believe
As I said, EQUAL DRIVERS, the stang doesn't stand a chance without forced induction.

the cobra a little faster then car and driver said. Its just a bitch to get off the line. from mustang & fast fords mag, they got a 12.2 (avg 12.4 alot) out of it. But its still very sad that they let that car weigh 3900ish pds. But w/ modds that cobra will be crazy.

Im not sure; but i would think it would be much cheaper to go force ind then an NA motor.

Love the Mustang, great car, but I am sorry to inform you but there is an old addage...."Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's" The Corvette is a superior car......naturally aspirated and "no bottle"....there is no way. You are dealing with an underrated 400 hp in the base C6 and a lighter car than the Stang. He now has both an electronically shifted six speed OR manual...along with IRS. The Mustang is a 300 HP car in the true "Muscle Car" mode. If you want to do battle and win against a BowTie something...better go Impala hunting....
PS...better hope the new Camaro base model is a six cylinder....and not a detuned version of the LS6...expect to see a 7.0 ....nearly 500 hp in the Camaro too and with 6 spd. ...IRS too.

If you want to hunt Corvettes...look for a C4...you might stand a chance if he is a poor driver.
+1 and you better hope the C4 is not and LT4........

A LOT of aftermarket work.

Consider this, the GT500 can't beat a C6 Corvette at a drag strip or a track.

If beating a C6 Corvette is your goal, you're getting into the wrong car.
Not with Motor Trend drivers behind the wheel, but MM&FF sure had no problem beating the C6's best times. As for besting the C6 with a 3V Mustang GT, it's no different than any other car that's faster than our's, smart add-ons will take you deep into the 12's pretty easy, more than enough to hang with or beat a C6.

Correct. You will need forced induction, with a high-end set u to get near the LSX vette. Remember, stock, we're still slower then the old LS1 Camaro.

It would take an awful lot to beat one. To smoke one would be impossible without some type of power adder I believe. I honestly think it would take about 500+ horsepower and complete suspension overhaul to beat the coupe and about 600+hp with the suspension to beat the Z06. We would basically have to build a Corvette(a car that sits low, has top of the line suspension and has a lot of meat for traction). The reason for so much power is because of the weight difference AND the way those things hook compared to ours. If we added the power to beat one, the suspension and traction issues would surface. In other words, order your crate engine and suspension upgrades now.

This is getting off the topic, but a stock manual 05 Mustang GT does low 5's and mid-upper 13's for 0-60 and 1/4, respectively, which will hang right in there with a stock LS1 Camaro, assuming equal drivers.

i love how exaggeratedly optimistic everyone is about hanging with a vette! (kidding of course). they are a mass produced consumer car as well; they are not god
