The rear wing arguement has me really intrigued. I know exactly jack-**** about car aerodynamics, so does the rear spoiler on our stangs make any difference other than looks? If I remember correctly, you can order the 2007s with wing deletion option can't you? If that's the case, wouldn't that imply that they are minimumly functional, if at all? (I ask this out of ignorance on the matter.)
I know the Bugatti Veyron has a functional rear wing, but that is HARDLY an ordinary car. Wouldn't that also imply the Evo could have a functional wing as well?
Yes our wing is functional to an extent.. (as are all wings) but only at very high speeds. Meaning if youre driving at 130 in our car with a spoiler the car will feel more stable than without one. And yes the Veyron and a few other high end cars have fully functional rear spoilers.. There is even one of the Porsches, I forget which one (might be the 911) where the spoiler is fully functional and comes up at.. I believe 85 or so mph. The ones on the lower model Porsches that come up at like 35 or whatever are mostly for show but at high speeds any wing will help more than no wing.
There are very few cars with fully functional wings (wings that can be adjusted manually or automatically adjust themselves depending on speed) and its mainly actual race cars and exotics. Someone correct me if Im wrong but I believe even Lamborghini's have fixed wings.
And to answer your last question, in order for a wing to be fully functional it must be lowered at speeds where it will cause more drag than downforce and raised at speeds where downforce is needed, so by definition.. No, an EVO does not have a fully functional wing (unless of course you were to custom make one)

Thanks for the info Bl1nkage, that answers the questions I had. I appreciate it.

Oh! This one I CAN answer. (From a Top Gear episode, actually. =) I know the Lamborghini Gallardo does have a functional wing. They remarked on Top Gear that it popped up at 80mph and there was no manual override for it. (The joke from the hosts went: "The wing pops up at 80? Isn't that like raising a little flag that says: HEY! I'm speeding!") I can't speak from the Murcielargo (I know I killed the spelling.) but I think that makes a pretty strong case that it does have a functional wing.

LOL, thanks alot.. and yeah I never thought of it like that.. makes sense though.. be kinda hard to deny you were speeding if they saw the wing up, heh. Even worse if it got caught on their dash cam!
but its basically gutted too, your lucky to get an air-conditioner..
Maybe that's why the guy I was racing had all his windows down at 3pm in the afternoon? I live in Florida, it's freaking humid here, i'll keep my a/c on even if it means losing.
He f*cked up on the launch, and he MISSED second... He didn't give up... If he got into 2nd he would have start reeling the evo in, and by 3rd he would have overtaken him. AWD is great for launches, but you will loose a lot of horse because of it.
Typical Rice video. And yes, Evo's are wicked fast, but I wonder when he needs a rebuild because he screwed up his motor. It is still just 2 litres...
It's like the guy said earlier. You run what you brung..If you miss shifts thats tuff you lose.Any car can be fast, let it go...the stang got it's ass waxed.

Everyone....repeat after me: Wuuuussabbbaaa......wuuuuussaaabbbbaa......feel the calm.......feel the calm........
This seems to be one of the most hotly contested subjects on the forum. Some folks don't like Evo's, some folks do. Can't we all just get along? =)
As for me personally, I like Evo's. I think it's a helluva car for the price. I choose not to own one, and doubt I ever will, but that doesn't lessen my respect for it any less. So are our cars. Mustangs, esp. the 2005+ models are a HELLUVA car for the money.
I am actually very curious what the Evo owner had to do to that car to get it at 500hp. (I don't doubt him at all, I would just be interested in seeing his list of engine mods/work.)
im in the same boat here, i like and respect them but that doesnt mean i'll ever own one. Most people that actually own them arent event ricers, the LANCERS are ricers
evos take easy to mods so 500hp isnt hard at all.
all im saying bl1nk is that you rant about them, yet your saying they are ALL "sh1t".. yet you have no problems with it?
sad panda face
