Hey all. Just to put it out there, I've tried the search function, but I always get an error message...
I will soon be the owner of a 2007 GT, manual tranny. I'm coming from a 2004 350Z, which my buddy decided to total for me [:@]
I don't plan on doing a whole lot of modifications to the GT (how many of us have said that?), but one of the first ones will definitely be going after that "classic" Mustang sound. Deep, a little loud, with a LOT of rumble to it. I've spent the last week or so poring over this forum, as well as sound clips on YouTube, trying to find something that would suit my needs, and I'm thinking the SLP Loudmouth might be the ticket. I'm a little concerned with the fact that everyone says it gets VERY loud with an O/R H-pipe however. On my Z, I ran a Nismo exhaust with catless test pipes, and that wasn't too loud for me.
Can anyone give me an idea if I'm pointed in the right direction at least with the SLP for the "Mustang sound", with the addition of an O/R H-pipe as well? And also, just how loud is that combination?
Thanks!

22kart22, I thought I saw on another thread that people had a lot of problems with the Flowmaster axle-backs. Is that correct? Would you be able to combine an O/R H-pipe with the Flows and have it be bearably loud?
I think you'll be surprised how loud it gets with an O/R H pipe. I have Supreme GT mufflers which are the same mufflers that come on the Shelby GT and GT-H so they are just a little louder than stock. I put an O/R H-pipe on over the weekend and now the car sounds like a dragster, not in a good way. If you want loud then that is the way to go, to me it just sounds like a car with a bad muffler.
I just installed the American Thunder axleback on mine about a week ago. I love it, has a really deep rumble, but not stupid loud. I did read something about people having trouble with them starting to rattle after awhile. Think it was something about the welds breaking on the baffles. If you think about it though, they probably sell the crap out of this set up and I have only seen a few people complain about the rattle problem. Doesnt matter what you buy theres always going to be a few people who have problems.

I can heavily recommend the MAC axelbacks. They have soem drone around 2 grandish, but it is bearable. They have a really deep tone and are pretty loud. I have not heard the Loudmouths is person but i dont like the sound of the clips all that much when they were combined with o/r H or X. Brenspeed has some pretty good clips. I think the Macs would only sound better with a new midpipe. Also, I believe they are the cheapest stainless muffler you can get(SLP isn't REALLY a muffler
I like my Macs. They sound deep at idle and in the low rpms and roar pretty loud in the upper ranges. They pop and crack occasionally as well. Hope we can help

So it sounds like the SLP LM's are not what I'm looking for then. It's so hard to tell what something is going to really sound like from just a clip online...
And Texas, you're probably right as far as numbers are concerned. Considering how many mufflers Flowmaster must sell, hearing of a few people having problems shouldn't really be surprising or worrying.
I also have the MAC's and love them. There is a noticeable drone at 1800-2000, but not terrible. I put them on about 5 days ago, 1st impression compared to stock was, whoa these are loud. 2nd impression after about 200 miles driving, not that loud at all, deep rumble, sounds killer. My wife thinks they are too loud My kids (3 &4 ) say it sounds like a race car now
NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU WANT THE CLASSIC MUSTANG-MUSCLE CAR SOUND, GO WITH THE BORLA AGGRESSIVE AXLE BACK MUFFLERS, THEY ALSO COME IN A CAT_BACK!!!

i have to agree, the borla agreesive sound pretty mean. JMO
edit: i had flowmasters when they first came out, and i was one of those people on this forums that complained a long time ago but them comming unwelded on the inside. To me even when they worked it almost sounded like a loud Ricer.. maybe they have a new series of them out now or sound better, but it definately isnt the old flowmaster sound you may be used to.
