Default Brendpeed Tune/CAI Comments & Question

I'm getting ready to order a Brendspeed CAI and SCT Tuner for my 2008 GT - (C&L AIR INTAKE WITH SCT X-CAL 2 2005/08 GT). After reading posts here, I'm sure I'll be happy. TheDealership said there would be no warranty issues, unless directly caused by the upgrades themselves.

First, any comments on the CAI I chose, there weren't as many that were marked for the 2008's and this is uncharted water for me.

Second, is theresignificant performance gains from different mufflers/axlebacks andX/H Pipes? (I not interested in trying to change the sound of my car - just perfromance.)If so, does this have to be accounted for with the tunes? Should I research these now, or will Brendspeed give me the additional tunes if I buy the Axlebacks etc. from them at a later time?

Thanks for you help!

Do you have an automatic transmission? I think people w/autos notice a bigger difference after the CAI/Tune.

I believe almost all CAI for the 05-08 GT will fit. I just bought a JLT2 and SCT from them and love it. I also bought an o/r H. They say going with an o/r h or x is worth a few hp and a couple from axle backs. You do not require a new tune for these. The only thing the tune will do is turn off the check engine light from installing an o/r pipe. I believe most tuners turn this off anyways!? Go ahead and give Brenspeed a call they will answer any questions you have and give you options.

Haha... that's pretty ironic. I just ordered my JLT2 and X-cal 2 from Brenspeed today! In regards to exhaust, I've already bought a full assembly SLP xpipe and loudmouths. I hear the sound of the o/r h is better, but the X pipe gives more horsepower (I'm not sure if that's true or not, as I am no expert.)

I would like to add to vaporstang's question. Raven27 said that you do not require a tune for midpipes or the axelbacks, but would a tune be required for longtube headers? I've been thinking about upgrading to the SLP longtubes in the future, but Brenspeed doesn't carry them. That would mean more $$ for reworking the tunes when/if that time comes. Thanks!

I do believe that Brenspeed will give you and updated tune for free if you buy the mufflers from them.

From what people say no.. you shouldn't notice a gain of HP from O/R x/h pipe and definetly no gain from axlebacks (mufflers/muffler delete).. you will gain a slight bit but nothing you should notice.. long tubes are your best bet for noticable gain.. but again.. not a lot of HP unless you are forced induction.. Your best bet for noticeable gains will be alluminum drive shaft or new gears 3.73 for auto, 4.10 for manual.. (unless you are planning on going F/I.. then I'm pretty sure many people would say stick with 3.55s for manual) I don't think it matters as much as people say for which Intake you choose from brenspeed.. just choose one you think looks good or has the quality or price you prefer.. whatever is most important to you.. (as long as its not a K&N.. they don't seem to move as much air)

There is little difference between the various CAI's. It's the tune that will make or break what you'll feel in added performance. You've made an excellent choice in CAI's and with Brenspeed.

There is little to no performance gains with axlebacks and/or an aftermarket X or H pipe. There is some minor gains if you go with an O/R X or H from what I've heard but again, it's minor. The stock exhaust (including the stock H) breathe rather well for a stock system. I'm sure others will add their input since I haven't done anything other than axlebacks, mainly for additional "audible feedback".

umm.. apparently I was wrong about 4.10s not having enough traction with f/i.. a few people with them have already chimed in on that other thread saying its better(faster) with no big difference in traction issues vs 3.55s.. so.. 4.10s might be the way to go no matter your future plans.. ofcourse you wont gain HP with this mod..
