exactly, it's totally fool proof...

set it and forget it.

the lines you draw on the chain and
sprocket, are there to emphasize how
important it is to not change the
position of the sprocket on the chain.

if you do, you change the cam timing
and that's not what you want to do.

mutha thumpers ftw.

ok i see now the line of questioning...
you are taking the phasers out and was wondering
how to get everything back to the way it was....

i'm sure you'll figure out a way to hold the chain up,
when it's time to remove the phaser.
because even though the timing wedge is going to be
in there, you'll still want to support the chain somehow.

can't wait to hear these cams and good luck with
the project. if you have questions fire away.

i plan on making my own timing chain wedge and im going to have help doing the install so i dont think it will be all that bad as long as i take my time. i cant even fathom spending $120 on something i could make. esp being as simple as the wedge.

Hammeron, in the write up, why would you check for the lobe positions after loosening the cam phaser bolt? Would it be fine to make sure the front cylinders are coming up on the exhaust stroke first before loosening that bolt?

ok, i think i see what you are asking and it's
a good question.

ford has you loosen the sprocket bolts before
verifying the lobe positions, just incase you
have to spin the crankshaft a little to fine
tune the lobe positions.

the sprocket bolts take a lot of force to break
loose and breaking them loose, may move the
lobes out of position.

so the sequence of events is very appropriate.

that's a bummer about having to get a
replacement cam, but at least it wasn't
too long of a delay.

as far as break in... what i did after putting in
the cams, was to take it for a short drive
then came back and changed the oil.

for the next couple of weeks i just took it
easy and didn't do any WOT runs.

let me know how the first test drive goes.
