The bbk's are the ones that dont gain any hp up top. Actually they lose 2-3hp compared to stock at high engine speeds. That is most likely because they have such a sharp bend on the one exhaust tube. This restriction would theoretically cause a low pressure area in that exhaust tube and try to suck exhaust back towards the engine when it is expelled from the other cylinders on that bank. This is especially true if still running the stock cats because the backpressure in the midpipe will be higher. If you are going to do shorties, I would go with the JBAs because their bends are so much smoother than the BBK's and on JBA's website, you can see that they have linear gains and dont fall flat on their face at high rpms like the BBKs. Now the BBKs aren't total crap, as they picked up like 20 ftlbs of torque down low on the MM dyno test, but it seems like the JBA's keep that same amount of gain up till redline.
