to my understanding as long as you are not knocking the motor, and the cpu is not retarding the timeing do to knock, just changing the fuel will not give you more power. I have never seen a car that ran correctly on 89 octane us(with no retard/knock issues) that made more power/better mpg on 91 or even 93 octane. But i have seen cars that were tuned for 91 or 93 retard/de-tune the motor and drop power due to running either bad gas or 89 octane, in that case running the higher octane fuel and after the cpu starts moving the timeing up you will get more power/better mpg. But only if the current fuel you are running is either too low in octane or has another additive that is causing the motor to be retarted (normaly this is caused by knock).
I might be wrong, just my 3.9cents (euro rate is good right now :snark: )
The "new" part is that the marketing department created a new ad campaign--most all gasolines use nitrogen based detergents in their formulations, and have been for years.
Chevron gasolines with their nitrogen-enriched Techron additive contain polyether amine (PEA) chemistry to help keep vital engine parts cleaner than lower quality competitors, helping reduce the amount of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides released into the atmosphere. It all adds up to a cleaner and happier car.
