Default HO upgrade dyno

A brief history of my forced induction. All numbers from the same dyno, all weather corrected.

First a non-intercooled FRPP whipple with supplied tune 361rwhp, tuned by HP Ranch netted 408rwhp.

A few months ago I upgraded to the HO Whipple which is basically installing dual fuel pumps, intercooler, and new FRPP tune. I chose to go with a 3.625" pulley (8lb) since I have a gen 2 blower that puts out 2 psi more than the gen 1 the pulley was rated for. 8+2= 10 psi.

Got new numbers today at a dyno day. 436rwhp, 422rwtq, average AFR 11.6, average boost 9.4 with a peak of 10.6. Timing was 17 degrees at WOT.

FRPP really has a good tune. The fuel trims were only fluctuating 1-2 from 0 at idle.

Somehow I can't post attachments on this forum, but If I could, I would show you a similar stable a/f ratio, which confirms that the FRPP HO Whipple KIT is probably the best one out there. It came with a 3.25" pulley, giving me 524 RWHP and 504 RWTQ on Dynojet. How come yours came with a larger pulley?

How come yours came with 3.25? That's got to make at least 12lbs. The first generation blowers came with 3.375.

Bruce, shouldn't you be using the 3.5 inch pulley? I thought they made that specifically for the generation 2. That should give you a solid 10-11psi which is what the generation 1 makes with 3.375.

Anyway, good numbers for 3.6 inch pulley. Next take it to the track.

I had to buy the pulley. Mine came with a 3.25 but there was no way I was running that with a gen 2 and stock bottom end. That pulley should be good for 3 psi over the 3.625 which would ballpark at 48 more hp. That would put me at 480+ on this dyno. For reference a stock 5 speed s197 put down 249rwhp yesterday on this dyno.

Over the winter my plan is to build a shortblock and still keep it under 500rwhp. Too many problems come with power, I anticipate my next weak link will be the input shaft to the tranny. It's rumored that Tremec is coming out with a hardened 10 spline soon. If that's available by the time I do the shortblock it will be done while the motor is out.

Moose,
I upgraded with a big boost kit. The parts were for a gen 1 so it came with a 3.25. I thought about going with a 3.5 or even 3.375 but in the end decided to be consevative. I want to build a block on my time, not because I have to.

The last test and tune of the year is Friday. I didn't want to go until I was sure about the a/f and timing. Weather should be good, I have DR's and everything is solid on the car. Really looking forward to it.

Well take it easy on the launch. It's easy to blow the tires off at the line. I never heard of whipple shipping the generation 1 with a 3.25 pulley. Maybe that's something they starting doing after I got mine.

I have the Gen I and I'll take that pulley of yours. I'm running the 3.5 inch pulley. Let me know if you want to get sell it.

Sold it about a month ago. They do pop up on ebay from time to time though.
