Default paxton throwback or Vortech V3

These kits seem identical on Brenspeed. Does anyone know any differences that could make someone choose one over the other besides just brand name preference?

I don't think there is any difference really. I would say if you want to upgrade to the HO kit later, then pick the kit that matches the Brenspeed available intercooler you want. Vortech = liquid cooled, Paxton = air cooled.

Note that either cooling system can be used with either blower I'm sure, I just haven't seen them packaged that way. If you are just going to stay with the non-IC kit, roll the dice...

i think the IC on the vortech is air/water and the paxton is air/air.

now you're going to start something.

IMO, the air/water is better for the track. you can use a bigger reservoir and pack with ice for quicker cooling.

the air/air is good for the street, and the install is easier.

for the track go with air/water. for street either one is good.

I believe the air/water may provide an overall cooler charge, however at the expense of more complexity (ie more points of failure). If it were me and I were going to upgrade to the HO kit, I'd buy the Paxton.

The one piece of advice I'll give you is if you know you're going to go HO, just try and do it now. You'll save $500-700 in the long run. I wish that I had gone that route, not for the extra 35-40~ rwhp, but simply for the fact that now I'm too lazy to bring the car in to get taken apart for more work. Maybe eventually, we'll see. I've had random thoughts of just saying screw it, building the bottom end and just buying a Hellion turbo kit. Then I slap myself in the head and think about something else.

I would sure like the Hellion kit too. I think for my budget though, one of these two kits would work best for me if I wind up going FI. That and my wife still drives it as much as I do. Not sure she would support mods as much going forward the first time she melted the tires off the rims by overrevving the turbo even by a little.

Even these non-IC kits will light up the tires at about 30mph, especially the stockers. I am running 275s on the back and it happens a little less often.
