I could really do with some help/advice regarding the 2005 Mustang GT that I bought recently...
This is an intermittent fault, but it's more often bad than good... When I'm driving and try to accelerate, particularly when pulling out to overtake or pulling away at a junction, there is no power (pick up?) until around 5,000 rpm and then it kicks to life! This is most evident in 2nd gear.
I took the car to a certified Ford dealer to sort the problem and they said it was the throttle and duly replaced the throttle body (stock). I picked the car up, but with 20 minutes the same problem was there, dead until 5,000 rpm!
I took it back to the same Ford dealer and this time, after what I thought was a more thorough testing/inspection, they said that it was the clutch. So, wanting to build this car up I ordered Exedy Mach 600 clutch kit and Fidanza aluminum flywheel from Steeda. They arrived a few days later and the Ford dealer installed them for me. I picked the car up and guess what, great gear changes, but still dead until 5,000 rpm!!
I'm obviously going to have to take it back to the same Ford dealer, but as is probably obvious, I don't know a great deal about cars/engines and want to have some sort of idea as to what the problem is as the Ford dealer doesn't seem to know much either! Can anyone help me out??
Oh, I did install Steeda's Ultimate Induction Power pack when I first got the car, which obviously includes the SCT X3, which I used to chip it to the pre-installed Steeda programme. I've used the X3 to return the car to stock, but the problem described above is still present.
Thanks in advance for your help!

hard to visualize this... you're saying
the car just coasts along not gaining
any speed, until the rpms get to 5000,
then it does start picking up speed.
not sure what would cause this.
hopefully someone will have some insight
for you.

Exactly! Which is not only seriously embarrassing and frustrating, but bloody dangerous too if trying to overtake... I pull out, floor it and nothing!
When they replaced the clutch, do you know for certain if they also replaced the pressure plate and throwout bearing? They should have but it'd be worth asking. If the engine is revving with no forward motion, that would tell me that there's something wrong with the pressure plate clamping the clutch to the flywheel. Possible bad pressure plate or maybe the throwout bearing is catching somehow. Just sitting here and had another thought, maybe the master or slave cylinder is not releasing reliably. Are you getting any vibrations or shuddering?

the dealership sounds like a good one, they
seem to be helping you out without much
grumbling.
They don't have anything to grumble about mate, I'm being charged a small fortune for all this work and am having to pay for the all replacement parts, as the car wasn't bought from them so I don't have a warranty. It was a private purchase.

I'm pretty sure the throwout bearing was changed too, but I'll check with them today. Not sure about the pressure plate, so I'll check that with them too. There are no vibrations or shudder, just a steady deep hollow sounding growl as the rpm's crawl up to around 5,000 rpm and then woosh! Power!

I never noticed it on the test drives I took and I'm pretty sure I would have. I first noticed the problem about a week after I bought it, which was around the same time that I chipped it using the SCT X3, and it got steadily worse.
The Ford dealership checked the VIN for me and they said it came up clean, but it would be cool if you could take a second look for me. I'll PM the VIN to you when I finish work this evening, I'm GMT +3 so just starting my day! Cheers!
