Question Tuner Question in PA

Does anyone have any experience with Evolution Performance in PA? I live farely close to that place, drive by it every now and again, and they always have some of the baddest mustangs I've ever seen parked out front. The reason I ask is that I'm about to pull the trigger on a CAI/Tuner combo from Brenspeed because I hear very good things. But I know this place, Evolution, has a great rep around here also. Not to mention that the combo kit with the C&L Racer is 25 bucks cheaper from Evolution with the same tuner and custom tune. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Although I've never used Evolution, there is an Evolution that's been highly praised on the forum and supposedly right up there with Brenspeed and Bama for their custom e-mail tunes. If the one near you is THE Evolution, then definitely go for it.

On another forum I use, I've seen a lot of negative comments about them. Nothing specific, but not to use them.

I was curious about getting a dyno tune for my car, so I decided to give them a call. The guy I spoke to was very nice, and said until I do FI in my car, I'd be wasting my money with a dyno tune. He suggested staying with my current tuner, and getting an update.

To me, that was worth saying their a quality shop. He spent his time on the phone to talk to me and ultimately suggest I do not pay for their dyno service because I won't get my money worth. I can certainly appreciate their honesty.

I'd say give them a call at the very least. Post up how you make out, because I'd like to see what others think too.

Evolution and Tillman are pretty much across the street from each other. The only thing I've got against Tillman is time management. They are extremely busy and take on alot of work at once. I had my motor turned into a 302 stroker 9.3:1 compression and had the input shaft hardened in my Tremec 3650 and it's running great. Had some noise in the motor and it turned out my phasers were shot. I just had lockouts installed monday and they dyno tuned it yesterday and it runs great. A little low on the power side due to lower compression and the lockouts. It dyno'd 310 rwtq and 280 rwhp but the motor was built for a blower in the future so it wasn't made for N/A power.

Nuke, it is definitely THE Evolution made famous in just about every Mustang publication there is. JZ, thanks for the input. I am a person that can appreciate their honesty in your situation. I worked as a Tech in a local Ford dealership for a while and tried to do the same for my customers. I'm going to give Evolution a call tomorrow while I'm at work and see what type of process there is for my custom tuner.

I saw some of their cars run down at Mustang Week and it was impressive, but to tell someone that a dyno tune is pointless until they go FI is not very smart in my book, dyno tuning an NA car with a lot of bolt on's, especially long tubes is almost a must to get all the power out of it. You could be leaving 15-20 on the table. Just my two cents...

Unless you're racing and really need every RWHP, most people here do feel that a dyno tune on an NA car (at least an S197) isn't money well spent since most of the better CUSTOM tunes have been typically within a few RWHP of the dyno tunes. But if I was paying to be dynoed AND the shop was known for their tunes, then by all means; dyno tune FTW.
