I just bought a new 09 GT last night. It has less than 100 miles so far. I've always heard that new cars need to be "broken in" but I don't know exactly what that means since this is the first car I have bought brand new. Any tips on how to treat a new car would be greatly appreciated

drive it at randoms speeds never at a constant speed. and i would say give her about 1,000-2,000 miles before you beat on it

The Owners Manual will explain how to break it in. Bottom line, what mattstang above says but don't be afraid to get on it hard once in awhile. Just don't beat on it. These engines are made to practically go from the showroom to the track.

there should be a few lines about proper break-in if you RTM.
Main thing is don't use the cruise control for the first 1000 miles or so and never start up your engine and start gunning it while stopped, showing off your new V8 sound!
Breaking in has been debated forever and will be debated forever. I agree with all the guys that said to brake it in at variable speeds and take care of it for a simple reason. If you plan on keeping it for more than 5 years, take care of it and it will take care of you. If you are the type that changes cars as often as you change your shirts, do whatever you want since it wont matter. I don't condone that, but I know that's the way people will behave, so I just said it out loud. I have known people who never even pop the hood or worry about anything since they know they will sell the car in a few years. Usually around the time the payments or warranty runs out, they sell it. Me on the other hand, I keep cars for at least 10 years, so I take car of mine.

Just an electrical/I&C with construction, design, mods, predictive maintenance, parts obsolesence, root cause, failure analysis, troubleshooting, 10CFR50 APP B, APP R, 10CFR21 and a smattering of other experience. Are you at Watts Bar or with D.O.E.? I just wrapped up an assignment at the enrichment facility in Paducah.
Many people will argue how to properly break in a car, but there is one thing most will agree on. At about 1,000 miles you should do your first oil change in order to get particles of metal out of the oil.
