i have the SCT X3. So what i have to do i play with the gears to find where my speed is correct and go with that gear setting?
When you are programming your vehicle and it prompts you to adjust options, in those options you will fine a Axle category, within this category we have preset the most popular rear axle so you can select the specific axle you installed on your vehicle. In you case you will select 410, you will then press cancel to save the changes and proceed programming your vehicle.

So today UPS will dropping off my Custom Tuned SCT X3 Programmer from Brenspeed. I know its probably easy to install but if you guys have any tips or suggestions I'm all ears. I know for a fact im going to need help changing the revs per mile for my newer wheels the size for those are 255/35/20 on all four corners I'm sure I can re-tune that right??
You will be at approximately 746 revs per mile using the 255/35/20 tires. You will be able to change this in the adjustable option section when tuning the vehicle.
Looking at the SCT xcal3 tuners on American muscles site, why is there two? aside from one having the option for free tunes are they the same? Is it just me thinking one that comes with free tunes would be more exspensive?
Could someone explain the differances and pro's/cons to each if there is any between the two.. or tell me which would be best for me, just starting to mod a 62k 03 Auto GT. My plan was to start with the tuner and go from there, have CAI already (sitting in box still), after tuner I am looking to get 3.73s and probably x-pipe or t/b and plenum.
Afraid to buy one of the tuners and not get the best one for my situation. Thanks for any advice.
The X3 (part number 3000) is a custom tune device only, able to hold up to 3 custom tunes. The SF3 (part number 3015) has three preloaded tunes for stock applications and able to modify for CAI and tire revs, and will also hold up to 3 custom tunes. The functions on both devices are the same, except for what I mentioned above. In my opinion the SF3 will be the way to go, just because for the time being you will have the preloaded tunes and tune your Mustang and when you start adding heavier modifications you can then get custom tunes loaded onto the device. American Muscle does offer free tunes for life and as you keep adding mods you will need new tunes.

Thank you for the reply. I have been doing some more reading and I am about to order my SF3, I just wanted to double check on the order of the "build" I want to go in and if/how the tuner will be used, here is what I would like to do and the order I plan to do it in:
get tuner(ordering tomorrow morning I think)
decide on octane rating tune (probably 87 perf. if it has it, 91 for track)
set trans shift points/firmness settings (one of the main reasons I am going with SCT)
set tune for CAI
Install my CAI
3.73 install (next month or so)
set tune for gear change
O/R X pipe install (probably by x-mas)
75 shot (8 months to a year away)
email order tune or dyno tune (for nitrous for use at track, would keep previous 87 or 91 octane tune for DD)
(of course this last tune after the nitrous install may need to be on a dyno and I believe would be unrelated to the previous tune totally so I could switch to it at the track, but would be set up for the changes already made anyway ..OR they could be remade to the tune.. if I am understanding things correctly, still not sure here)
If done in order like this with the SF3 do the the modifications made along the way all "stack" or work together? Or are you cancelling out the octane you tuned for to tune for CAI/trans/gears etc?
I think what I am asking is can you install a "canned" tune/mail order/dyno tune and then make the additional changes on top of it such as gear ratio/CAI/trans shift points etc?
Sorry for the dumb questions, Im from the obd-1 generation. Wish there was more information on this stuff. Thank you again for the advice.
EDIT
Also wanted to ask, if I buy the tuner from American muscle and at a later date want to buy an email tune from Brenspeed or Bamachips etc can I do that? Or will they not make a tune for it since it was not bought from them?
OK, another newbie question here. There's a used SCT2 tuner for sale on this forum. The owner has "unlocked it," which I understand means that he has uploaded the saved factory tune to the car. Is that correct?
The seller says that the tuner comes with the three standard custom tunes. What I don't understand is why I see posts that say the custom tunes can't be re-used on another car. Is that because the custom tunes were created for a specific car (factory code number), or because the custom tunes were created for the car plus mods? Or is it something else?
It seems like the standard custom tunes should work for a 2nd car.
Now the car wont start and from the looks of it the tuner wiped my ecu clean. Wont even turn on the tuner anymore when I plug it in.
Thanks SCT and AM, a very big headache and who knows how much to fix/reflash is all this tuner has been for me.
I should have bought a x-pipe or something I guess. Friggin ridiculous!
EDIT!:
I guess the battery went bad, drove the car everyday this past week with no issues in stock form, got my email tune since the SCT tunes made the car ping when you jumped on it under 2k, went to put the custom tune in and the car wouldnt start.. crazy, thought the ecu fried.. took battery to autozone this morning and it tested bad.
Here is a few questions about the sct. My tune for my 06 automatic is not a race tune but still healthy. I changed the gears and fixed the speedometer, now comes the sad part;
I hit 2nd too hard and spins bad and still 3rd chirps as that shift is too hard, on the street fine but at the track it I need to adjust it to meet the track conditions. I know I can squeeze a .1 out of the shift trouble but the options I read did not make sense to me, I could spend a few days learning but I learned a painful lesson the hard way a long time ago, ask first.
What softens the shift and sets the rpms shift points at WOT?
We all can get there but what means what when we get there?
Any why is is there no manual with these translations available for us non tuner guys btw, I wont be offended if it comes to me like a See Dick and Jane book or even a Cat In The Hat version as long as it fills the void between the ears.

From what I have seen using my SF3, Shift Firmness should soften the shift. Shift Point adjusts the mph, and these changes will adjust the point slightly at other throttle ranges, meaning when cruising around town it will shift earlier just like it will at WOT if the change to shift earlier was made in the tune set up. This is just what I have seen from briefly messing with the trans settings on my 03 GT.
Heres what I guess is the user manual(assuming you own X3/SF3):
