Default Coil on Plugs

http://www.steeda.com/products/coil_on_plug.php

Can a lightly modified GT, or any GT for that matter, benefit from these? According to the description, they seem like a good buy. (Doesn't say if they are $59.99 each or Seperately.) Anyway, I realize it's the saleman's job to make a good sales pitch (IE the description) so I was wondering if these are good or no?

Also, I realize some products don't really offer that much gain for their price, but maybe they are just an overall good mod, and just not to increase power/fuel efficiency.

Thanks.

They will benefit a S/C GT, but not a stock or a lightly modded one.

Hard to justify at that price.

KB sells a Boost-a-Spark for $219 that will give you more spark power than the coils. I use the BAS so I don't have reduce the plug gap to prevent spark blowout with the SC.

Granatelli makes a set you can find for $399.00 (all 8). A much better deal than the Steeda parts totaled.

From what I understand, after running / heating up the staockers are prone to heatsoak issues. With the aftermarket coil-overs, no heat soak, consistant performance at the track. But as stated, most likely more gains on forced induction motors.

The Granatelli stuff sucks. Someone on this forum got a set of them and they caused misfire! But what would I know about anything at all.

BTW, you're wasting your money on spark boost on most N/A applications.

Like PT said, "A fool and his money are soon parted, and there's one born every minute!"

I'd like to know how heat supposedly can affect an electromagnetic coil.

WTF????

Maybe my profs forgot to cover that in engineering school....

Heat causes expansion, and too much could change clearences in the coils or break down insulation and cause arcing. It don't think it could affect the electromagnetic properties as much as the mechanical properties.

On the distributor type coils with high output ignitions, I have had coil failure, but these coils have a very low duty cycle since there is one on every plug.

The fact that coils could be designed with higher output could help with FI and higher boost, but who knows how effective they are and they certainly are not the most cost effective way to fix this problem.

Summit Racing is unloading theirs @ $149 (could be the Snake-oil claims from Granatelli)

I have been told by two tuners to not waste your money unless you are SC'd, and even then its good for maybe 5-8 hp.
