shorties vs. longtubes
what type of hp and torque gains can you expect from each? if i'm simply concerned with 1/4 mile times which is best for the car? i've been looking at lt's but would shorties be better for the drag strip?

Shorties, you will spend 60% of the money and 80% of the effort installing only to get 4-5 hp. L/Ts will net you about 17-20 hp. Some things to consider with L/Ts:
A good header mid-pipe setup right nowwill run you at least 1200 bucks and up to 1400, poor cost to hp ratio
You will have to pull the headers anytime you want to pull the tranny.
They will never be CARB legal since you change the location of the cats from the factory location(if you keep the cats at all)
As soon as I decide what flavor of FI that I want I'll know if I'm going with L/Ts or not.

RE: shorties vs. longtubes
overall, LT's are way better. if you're trying to stay emissions legal they do have a couple of good points.
1. smoother exhaust tone.
2. no need for new midpipe- bolts right to stock.
3. slight weight saving
4. slightly reduce engine bay heat.
5. they are only good for 2-4 PEAK horsepower, but you will see anout 10 or so in the midrange. they might be good for a tenth at the dragstrip.
if you have the gumption to put them in yourself they're worth it for a couple hundred bucks. if you're looking for big power and can afford it, go with LT's.

shorties will give u a MAX of 5 ponies...waste!!!! get American Racing LT's with hi-flow x....+25-30 HP and equal Torque gains...other good brands are SLP, JBA, and i've heard good and bad things about Dynatech...but i think IMO american racing's the best
