RE: What's so good about 4.10 gears?
I just got my 3.73's installed in my auto and love them. Quiet and smooth, I'm at about 2500rpm's at 70mph which isnt that different from the stock gears and I havnt yet noticed a gas milage dip.

Great info about 4.10s. I've been wondering the same just like the original poster but a few questions still left unanswered...
How much does it affect MPG?
Is this recommended against daily drivers due to noise in the long run?
Last but not least, how much would a mechanic normally charge to install 4.10 gears?
Thanks.

I was quoted $575 parts and labour from my Ford dealer, that's for the Ford racing gears. Acceleration improvement sounds great, I'm not bothered about 155 mph either - I did do that once on a motorway, pretty scary experience..particularly the part when I noticed blue lights flashing behind me in the distance....

much more fun to drive . . . i love them as far as driving around, being all around more of a "muscle car" . . .
but if u do a lot of highway driving . . .like 65+ mph . . . i wouldn't recommend them
cranks around 2500 at 75 mph, and if u have exhuast, thats kinda loud . . . heh heh

Crozerstang, you probably have noticed that above 4,000 rpm your Mustang really starts to fly. The 3v V8 is a small block engine that likes to spin. 4.10s will get your engine rpms spinning sooner. I think they are fine as a daily driver.

Just a note to add:
I averaged 25.5 mpg while cruisin between 70-80on a four hour ride down interstate 40 while going to beach with 4.10 gears. I still average between 20-22 mpg all intown driving with at least 1 wot run every day.
And yes, with an o/r H and mac axlebacks, this thing gets loud at 75mph +

Motives are (from what I have read) a great gear but its tolerance toward not getting perfectly installed will cause more noise than the FRPP. I read that the diff housing has a poor design and with aftermarket installs if the installer knows his stuff you are fine with either. Just ask for a no whine guarantee with the install. If they cant guarantee that go find someone that can. JMO
