Default Quick review on 4.30 Ford Motorsport gear

Hello to all,

I recently had my stock 3.55 gear changed in my 2005 GT to a 4.30 Ford Motorsports gear. The work was done by www.FordSpeed.com.

The gear was purchased through Gearhead performance http://ghspeed.com/. I could not find this gear ANYWHERE and Gear Head had it to me in 2 days, everyone else was telling me 5+ business days.

Quick run down of the cost.

Gear $199 plus tax = $212.93

Install with royal purple gear oil and extra shims. $225.00

Total $437.93 for gear and install.

Now I was debating with the 4.10 and 4.30 like everyone else. FordSpeed grabbed information from me such as tire size for street and track use, what was done to the car, and how much do I drive my car and where to.

We figured out that my setup would be good for the 4.30.

20 inch wheels 275-35-20 tires sitting around 27.35 inches for a tire. I was in 5th gear at 60mph doing 2200 RPM's. I would take a good guess that 80mph is around 3000 RPM's.

I hope this helps some people that were trying to figure out how steep the 4.30 gear is. I love the gear the car pulls pretty hard and I actually shift less since I am in 5th gear after 40mph.

Any questions for me please post and I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge.

It wasn't a HUGE difference like everyone was making it to be. 80mph is 2800-2850 rpm's.

Im guessing your speedo read a little low like mine assuming you used the factory one in the car.
Mines not a calibration error its an indexing error (likely on purpose).
Assuming 775 rpm for the tires they should be 2945 rpm at 80 mph.
That of course assumes 100% accurate speedometer and tach.

My SCT is at the correct setting. (From what I know) I will double check with SCT this week. The 2945 sounds correct.

I dont think I would have been happy with 4.30's, hell, with my 4.10's its damn near impossible to get traction in 1st even when I start it off slow. I know the stock pirelli's don't help the matter, but still. But you do have 20's so that could possibly be a helping factor, anyway, anything is better than the stock 3.55's so congradulations!
