Default QUESTION about GAS

I run premium in my 08 GT/CS, but gas is getting up there. Is it ok to run 87 in my car or will it hurt my car...Please let me know and if I do what I can expect. Thanks for helping me out.

Default RE: QUESTION about GAS

check into it b/c i am not sure...but i have heard that if you run higher octane in your car even though the manufacturer recommends 87 octane, then eventually your car will get used to the higher octane and will run like crap if you try to start running lower octane again. Not sure the time frame though.

Makes sense though since our car basically adjusts itself to our particular driving style.

I guess at that point, you might as well go ahead and get yourself an SCT programmer and program it to run on higher octane so you atleast get some performance value from your overpriced gas...

87 is fine, and you will not see a benefit from running higher UNLESS you are running a tune for a higher Octane.

First off you should always run 87 octane in your Mustang. It is what Ford recommends and higher octane will be wasted on the stock tune. Higher octanes will only increase performance with tunes designed for them.

That saidI don't understand why people want to switch to regular from premium to save money. A 16 gallon tank of regular gas at $3.69 a gallon will run you $59.04 and premium at $3.99 a gallon is $63.84. That's only a $4.80 difference. If you really need to save $4.80 every tankful skip the Starbucks the day you fill up.

Ditto on running anything higher than 87being pointless if you're not tuned for it. No gain and can actually be detrimental over time. Didn't your Stang come with an Owner's Manual? Our Stang's can adjust for minute differences in octane but 87 octane is what is required.

That's what I've been saying for months here... Drink water instead of soda... Pack your lunch...

Andthe difference between 87 and 93 octane where I live is only 20 cents so for a tank the difference would be even less; $3.20 per 16 gallons. Isn't that less than a Happy Meal?

Hmm... Why would someone want to change from premium to regular? Using the above numbers $63.84 (premium fill-up) - $59.05 (regular fill-up) = $4.80 difference. Multiply that $4.80 times fill ups per week (for me that is three each week) and that comes to $14.40 a week (or ~ $57.60 per month/$720 per year). I don't eat that many Happy Meals or drink that much Starbucks, but can think of quite a few additional mods to get for that savings.

That's what I said when I filled up the wifey's Grand Cherokee the other day. The Jeep manual recommends premium - it was $3.96 I think - thejust over 19gallon fill up was $75.00! Soon it'll be over $100 for a freakin' tank of gas. I'm dating myself here but I could run all week for about $7.00 when I was 17.
