>> BTW, show me a v6 mustang averaging 32 mpg that isn't traveling downhill, and I'll bend over and bite off my nutsack, lol. <<
Yesterday we drove to Aspen for lunch. All back roads, some at 75mph, some at 45mph. Up over Independance Pass, which is mostly 20-30mph in 2nd gear. On steadty highway driving across WY, we get 32-34mpg.
>> Put the turbo on and see what happens to the 30-32 mpg (really 30-32?) and daily driving capabilities. Can't have cake and eat it too. <<
You're exactly right. The problem with living and driving at altitude is you lose so much cylinder pressure, and therefore power. A turbo will restore that power, and then some. But, if you make power, you burn fuel. Although it would be pretty cool, I'm reluctant to do that.
>> not bashing, but I would like to learn a little more about the street/track monster--just a little detail/ time slips/ etc.. <<
We run Pueblo Motorsports Park in 1:45, Miller Perimeter Track at 2:20, and Hastings Motorsports Park in 1:46. I have taken it to Bandimere to run the quarter. Best I could do was 12.04 on street tires. I just couldn't get traction with that much torque. I spent a lot of time getting the suspension set up just right for the road course, and I didn't want to change it for a few minutes of drag racing. Setiing corner weights takes a few hours.
pretty sharp ride-----just one thing----the front tag is killing it. ;D
Ive never done a road-coarse, so props to you, but.......
Just so ya know---there are plenty of 05+ GTs running the same times & faster thru the 1/4. Before my cam swap, I was running 11.95 at almost 116mph on 11psi & 100 octane--I gained another 35rwhp from the cams and have a couple other new surprises too--looking for 11.7 to 11.8 times

a gt 25K + 6K blower = low12s some suspension mods = high 11s
seems pretty stout to me

You can never have too much power, just not enough traction. 11.867 @ 119.35
Now that's a torque curve!!! 90% of max torque at 2500 rpm, and 83% of max at 2000 rpm! It looks like a friggin table top!
Getting back to the original topic, IMHO Ford pushed all of the right marketing buttons when they came out with the new '05 Mustang GT. A 300 hp engine(remember, that's a net hp rating, which is equivalent to a gross rating of approx. 375 hp in a 60's muscle car engine) that burns regular gas in a car with much improved handling and riding comfort compared to earlier models, and starting at less than $25K. Plus, it had the looks of the late 60's Stangs that satisfied the nostalgia factor for muscle car fans of the 60's(like me). Needless to say, it sold like hotcakes.
Yes, it has its flaws, but they can be easily addressed by the owner thru the purchase of aftermarket equipment, which Ford knows is always strong for the Mustang. This way Ford was able to keep the initial purchase price low to get the buyers into the showrooms, and after the purchase let the owner decide if he/she wanted to spend extra $ to tweak the car's performance. And it doesn't take all that much extra $, relatively speaking, to turn a stock 05 and later Stang into a monster that will blow a far more expensive performance car into the weeds, whether it's in a straight line or in the twisties.

I love my GT....has stolen my heart from day one...but you want performance? Go to the GT500.......makes the others step back......and I do speak from experience.
I could build a 600 hp engine too, but how reliable and driveable will it be? Could it pass smog tests? What kind of fuel mileage do think we would get out of it? No thanks to hand building something like that for a DD. I'll leave Fords R&D to do all the testing for me and put it in a great looking car to boot. I can add FI when if I get tried of losing to cars $10,000 plus my sticker or ugly cars that are in the same price range.

^^He makes a good point....there might be other cars out there that can rival our stock hp....but at the end of the day...you still have to look at it...and let's face it.....those cars referred to in previous posts??? I would need an emesis basin (puke bucket) near me to even be caught in them.
I guess I am trying to say I think our cars look good....damn good.

I couldn't agree with you more. Like most other posters here, I could have easily bought a Corvette, Viper, Charger, blah, blah, blah, whatever. I havn't seen anything on any dealers floor in the last decade that looks as good as this for <$100K. For that matter, I can't think of anything at any price that looks this good. They sell like hot cakes because they look and feel so darn good. If the car doesn't give you a woody, you shouldn't be owning it.
