The A/C system automatically kicks in when you use the defroster.

+1 A lot of people aren't aware of that.

Windshield defroster. It can use heat but the A/C compressor always still engages to dry the air (drier air = faster removal of condensation).

I have an 08 Gt that I purchased this month and the car has been doing the exact same thing as described by the OP.

It pop sounds as if you crept too close when you park and the bottom plastic rubbing the parking cement stump as you back out of it. I've stepped outside my vehicle several times confused to what it is - it's that loud.

From memory it has always happened in the rain - and when I've parked and had my front defroster on.

So have we identified what this sound is?

Let your engines break in a little more.. New engines 25k and below and cold weather don't usually mix well.

I've definitely had this happen to me several times before, too.

Just throwing this out there, but it sounds and feels more to me like if you were to pull the E-brake release lever on a vehicle that had a foot pedal E-brake. It's kind of a thud that vibrates through the car.

Seems odd that it would be AC related, but the description of the CASS does seem like it might be it.

Interesting. Finding this thread made my day, though, so thanks
