I've been running at 500 whp since I've had my whipple (10 psi pulley on gen 2). Though I don't do a lot of DD, I've taken mine to the track a lot. I have my rev limiter set to 6700, shift at around 6500 at the track. I've hit the rev limiter a few times being late on shifts. Only bad things that have happened to my car have been with clutches, so plan on that LOL. The miles that are on my engine have not been easy miles. I'm pretty sure the new Whipple kits being sold now come with the 12 psi pulley and are considered 550 bhp kits, putting you around 500 wheel.

edit: redfires automatically add 20 whp to any FI

Im going with the 400bhp FRPP Whipple this summer, and when I build up the bottom end I will get the 500hp upgrade kit. I am trust the saleen and the whipple not litter the streets with my engine parts but what about that Turbonetics kit. that heat on stock power cant be good even with 450 hp dont you think?

I have a friend in the neighborhood who's running the Whipple kit at 11psi on the stock block for about 4 months now. He replaced the clutch after it burned out as well as the driveshaft with safety loops, but other than that (and exhaust), he's pretty much stock.

My understanding is there are 2 intercooled kits now. The HO is 10psi and the Super HO or whatever is 12 psi.

I hear alot of this 450rwhp "safe" limit on the SB. Honestly I think that is people heads too much. I am sure that is the mid limit but you could loose a rod at 420rwhp or 520rwhp. No one knows for sure. Lower is probably better though.

I have always been of the opinion that given good fuel and a realistic tune people should go for whatever they can make at 10psi. I made 484rwhp and 469rwtq with a VMP tune and 10psi pulley. Some make more some make less. Going FI you have to be willing to replace the motor it is just par for the course. If you cant afford to do that in an emergency I wouldnt go FI then. Especially on a DD.

Whipple and a few others having been running with a 12psi pulley on a stock SB for years with no issues. And I have never heard of anyone loosing a SB with an HO kit and whipple tune.

FI is fun, but you have to pay to play.

How much does it cost to replace the engine if you blow it?

Thanks. So about the cost of a hell of a nice blower if you want to replace the engine.

I am upgrade from the Saleen 3.8 pulley to 3.4 pulley looking for 9-10psi, 460-470rwhp on 91 octane and 500+rwhp on 100 octane. I am also upgrading to a larger Afco dual pass heat exchanger. Engine is completely stock as is the exhaust, I will let you know how she is holding up when we are done, and after the first runs at the track next week.

I'm more curious about stock engines with 10 pounds or more holding up over say 50-70,000 miles of spirited driving.
