Question newb question, how much power before the engine, tranny, and diff get angry?

hey guys, haven't had my mustang very long but I'm going to get a Kenne Bell kit in a month or so and had some questions. I put a KB on my buddy's 04 GT, dyno'd 425whp and it was awesome!

anyway I'm just wondering at what power levels do parts start breaking. Kenne Bell said 500whp was the safe limit of the stock motor and I trust them. at what point does the stock clutch give out? when does the stock manual tranny get angry? how much power can you put through the stock rear end? I'm running the factory 3.55 rear.

I'm trying to learn more about this engine and drivetrain setup so I know what I'm in for when I add more power. thanks for your help guys!

400whp is probably the most RELIABLY (being the key word here) you will get on a stock clutch. After that you will need to start looking at Spec clutches or some other aftermarket performance clutch.

that's a bummer, my buddy's 04 took 425whp on drag radials all day long with the stock clutch. I figured the 3V would do the same or better, oh well, one more thing to get. what clutchs are most people running? Spec? anyone use Competition Clutch's or ClutchMasters?

gotcha, I'll get the kit first and see how the clutch holds up, worst case I just get the clutch later.

From what I have read around here the stock clutch will slip at 400-450whp, and I will also never buy a Spec clutch, it seems like it is hit or miss on them.

ClutchMasters makes a few different kits for the GT. I can't say enough good things about them in my past experience on my other cars so I think that's the route I'm going to go. their stage three kits are awesome and super streetable. they advertise 110% over stock so if the stock clutch holds 400-450 then 800-900 will be plenty for what I'm doing thanks for the replies!

depends on how you drive, hole shots yea the clutch will give it up after a while, just some romping from time to time it holds up well. Mine did for a yr plus and some track use, I upgraded when I decided I'd be tracking it more often.

the Spec issues from my experience seem to be on the 2+, I have a 3+ and never an issue, I know many others with similar experience.

If you trust KB ( I do) then they say 525 Hp. Go to their tech section on the 3V and they rate all the components.

I've got 475 rwhp and the clutch is ok for street use, but as others have said it does depend upon how you use or abuse it.
