I think this was one of the easier mods I've done.

I didn't use a torque wrench either, just reasonable force.

Hey guys, now a few weeks down the road, do you have any thoughts? IE: mpg, or actual performance value? Worth the $150 and 4/5 hours under the hood?

Mpg has stayed the same; which, by "same" I mean pretty awful (11 - 13 mpg). My car has never seen a highway. I think the problem may be the Bama race tune, I had brenspeed before and I noticed it was quite good with mpg. (but it was lame on the low end)

And as for performance, I mentioned that I felt some more pep right after installing the plates and going for a ride. By now, I'm already used to that pep and don't feel it anymore.

It's just one of those mods to do for fun and bragging rights. Definitely not recommended as one of the first mods as it won't make that much of a difference.

I think 1-2 hours is more reasonable. It's been shown to give 5hp, for the minor investment of time and money I'd say worth it.

So would you do this again (since unless you have a tune from the shop who sold it to you - you probably had to buy a new tune in addition to the plates) or would you put your money somewhere else?

Maybe.

But that's just now that I'm considering putting in a Vortech or Paxton supercharger which uses the stock manifold and I've read that it's a good idea to remove those flimsy valves out of the way of the ungodly amounts of air that will be pushed through.

If I were to purchase this again, I would just buy the "cheap" OEM replacement version, put them in, and forget them. I know I did after about 2 days with the expensive billet ones on.

wow,i thought this was a easy mod, lol,i even pulled mine back off for ****s and giggles just to hide the alternator power cable under the intake.i think i have pulled mine off 6-7 times since then,i always torqued mine down to 10 ft-lbs.the tool to disconnect the fuel lines is about $6 from any auto parts store.

i did my plates because of going turbo, didnt want to take any chances of the valves getting in the way.

congrats on doing it your self and learning more about your car,now your ready for a supercharger install!!

What's wrong with centrifugals?
