That thing looks like it belongs on a robot...I'll pass.

It definitely appears to be a hunk of metal!

They are also sold by Steeda. I really didn't want to have to relocate my panhard bar and this seems to be the ticket to a drain-hole cover w/o relocation bracket for the panhard. I ordered one this week. Just thought I would add that info to this great how-to thread. I also vote this one a sticky. Great pics and writeup! And a nice clean undercarriage helps .
I don't know who told you that, but the Ford Racing one works fine with the stock panhard bar in it's location. There's actually some room to spare

Although I should note, if I'm not mistaken I think I found one that specified it was for the 05-09 8.8 rear end.

I bent mine from pumpkin jacking but I just pulled it off and straightened it with a small hammer and a big vice. All sealed up with no leaks. I managed to hold my finger over the end of the bottle nipple and let it go straight into the hole. I squeezed the bottle in half till it it all ran out then repeated. The first time I did miss a little and sprayed my shirt. Took some heavy degreaser and several washings to get that stain and smell out of a black T shirt. No more garage stains was worth it though.

Just did this last weekend on my '05 GT and it was a little messy. I'd recommend a pump for the bottle...squeezing was quite difficult and took a good amount of time. Maybe the tubing we got was too flexible and it collapsed under the suction, but the fluid was NOT flowing very quickly at all. Probably took half an hour at least to empty the two and a half bottles of Royal Purple into there, and with a good amount of it on the garage floor and my clothes.

^ Sounds like you had hangups that I didn't have. Maybe adding a small hole in the bottle will increase the rate at which the fluid flows out the bottle, and prevent leaks due to less pressure.
I know it's to late for you now but maybe this idea will help someone in the future.

a couple days ago I bought 2 qts of rp gear oil and 4oz of the friction modifier and a differential gasket. Is it better/worse to just use the sealant than a gasket?

^ From what I have read in the past, the gasket maker sealant was preferred over the premade gasket.

I use a Lube Locker gasket. I prefer it over the gasket in a tube ... no leaks, no mess, no waiting and no scraping required.

Wink

While you're changing the gear oil, the Ford Racing cover is a nice upgrade. However, the panhard bar needed to be removed first.
