Question Normal Brake Pedal Travel - 06 GT

I have about 1/2" to 1" of brake pedal travel before the brake pedal gets firm. This is my first Mustang and I am curious if this is the norm for the 05+ GT models. My previous cars have been 1998+ Camaros and Trans Ams and their brake pedals were firm right when you put your foot on them.

I've completely flushed and replaced the brake fluid, thinking that it would help, but it didn't make a difference. Once it get's past the travel, then the brakes are firm as can be...I would just rather that the pedal have less travel.

If it's not normal is there anything I can test?

It sounds quite normal to me. I've had 1 or 2 cars where the brake pedal barely required much travel before you'd feel the brakes grab but most have had a bit of travel as you describe.

Mine is the same way too.... I have had a WS6 that you had to control how much weight you had to put on the pedal to stop the car without screeching to a halt.....the stang IMO could have better brakes for such a big car. Esp after FI....... I would get SS brake lines, new Hawk HPS pads and DOT4 brake fluid and that should help. I think there is flex in the lines causing this and the SS ones will help with pedal feel for sure....

Thanks for the replies guys. I too had a 2002 WS6 (why oh why did I sell that car?) and you are totally correct about the brakes on it. I had the Hawk HPS pads on it and they were fantastic.

My factory pads have 20k miles on them now, so when they are due to be changed I will do the brake lines, Hawk HPS pads, and Dot 4 fluid at the same time.
