that's a good point BruceH, yes Gen 1. i think i still
dyno lower than others with Gen 1's (and the whipple tune), but
not by more than say 20-30.

The frpp tune has evolved some too. There are two that I'm aware of, the original 500hp tune and the newer 550hp tune.

I'll bet the dyno you used is "conservative". Was the boost measured?

this dyno shop does not have the boost hook up, so
sadly no. what i do know however from "street dyno
sessions", is that the 3.375 pulley is producing right
around 10psi during WOT runs.

i did some "street dyno's" with the 3.125" pulley, but
there's just not enough road to get up past 11psi, so
i don't yet know, what the max is with that one.

Good info Hammeron. The value of this post is the performance difference between 9.8:1 and 8.7:1. I was scared to get an Aluminator block but not anymore. The difference is minimal. I'd just spin the Whipple up to 16 psi with a separate 10 rib pulley system and call it a day!

exactly right GerRod. on Monday I'll post up the actual dyno graphs for
the before and after short block swap, so folks can see more of
the real story. even though the peak numbers are similar, they are
moved up slightly, in the rpm band.

You guys realize there is a 9.8:1 aluminator available for the 3v right?

yeah but I would want the 8.7:1 block for boost, especially since it's not a real big power drop.

Hammer, thanks for the data. Were the old stock block numbers done at the same place?

it ran leaner than i expected and it didn't do well in the power
department.

i think with the 12psi pulley and a custom tune (like Simon1 wants), this baby will make some respectable power.
Custom tune usually will:

Sound different
make more power
get better economy fuel mileage.

You would gain close to 100 rwhp, probably 90 rwhp with a custom tune @ 12 psi.

I'm going to do a thread about my dynoing yesterday.
