Default Air not blowing from AC

The AC fan sounds like it is blowing alright but cold air is not blowing out of vent at the speed that it should. The air seems to slowly "filter" out with little blowing force no matter what the fan speed is on. But the air is cold.
Any suggestions?

Does the fan speed sound change when you try to adjust it slow->fast?

Does the place the air is coming out of change when you try to change it
(defrost, feet, panel)?

The place where the air comes out of does not change unless I change it.
When the AC is on high(fan speed) it will blow cold air fine. After a while (anywhere from 2-20 minutes) cold air continues to come out but at a much lower force while the fan speed sounds and feels like it has not changed.

OK, so it sounds like there's something going on with either the
blend door or the directional doors. Do you have manual or automatic
climate control?

OK, looks like the first step is rebooting the climate control module.

If you go here:http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=332,
this will take you to the online service manual. Download the PDF,
and on page 2, it walks you through the module reboot.

After that, we're talking about whipping out the VOM and doing
some electrical sleuthing, so hopefully the reboot will do the deed.

And, yes, those service manuals are for a 2005 - if you have the
2008 manual, you'll certainly want to use that instead.

My manual has no info on rebooting a climate control module. A search in this forum shows nothing on the subject.
How do I reboot?

In the online 2005 manual, the reboot procedure is on page 412-00-2
(Group 4 - Electrical, Section 12 - Climate Control, page 2)

I guess I was assuming the 2008 would have the same procedure as
the 2005, but if not, then if you walk through that section in your
service manual, you want to do the general diagnostics, and then if
that looks good, the section under "Incorrect/erratic direction of airflow
from outlets" - or any other section that you think sounds more like
your problem than that one.

Did this reboot work?

I am having the exact same problem as above on my '08 GT. It starts working fine and then suddenly the air just quits blowing although there is no change in blower speed (based on what I can hear). I am looking at the reboot procedure, but am not sure how to disconnect the EMTC module electrical connectors. Do I have to pull apart my dash to get to them?

Back from the dead...

I've searched and am not finding an issue like I have. I came across this post but there was never a final resolution posted.

It appears the original post was regarding a 2008. I have a 2010 and the fan speeds varies on its own, like I'm turning the fan up & down. I looked at the 2005 online manual and see the reboot proceedure but looking at the 2011 manual I do not see the reboot proceedure as an option. Either I missed it or in 2011 Ford changed the system. Does anyone know if a 2010 uses the same controls as a 2011 or if there a reboot proceedure for the 2011? The 2010 seems to be a blend of Ford components...

I'm thinking the resistors are going bad and causing my issue but before I take things apart I wanted to know which trouble shooting proceedure to follow, 2005 or 2011.

Any help would be appreciated.

I couldn't make it happen at the shop (go figure), and then winter came, so I haven't been using the AC lately. I did message Mayberry and got this response:

The AC was recharged and that fixed the problem! The stang was WAY TOO new for that to happen! Oh .....The compressor and all lines needed to be replaced also!!!!!! Ford was contacted and I was told it was just outside of the warranty.......poor workmanship on Fords part I think!!! The cost was $ 1200

Sounds like his was a cooling issue and not a fan speed issue. $1200 ouch...

I'm pretty sure the 2010 is very close to the 2011 in terms of interior electronics
and materials. I don't have access to my 2010 manual right now, but looking at
the online 2011 manual, in particular Pinpoint Test R (page 68), it basically says that
if the fan speed control is working, but acting weird, replace it:

Of course, the service manual says to pull DTCs before doing anything else, but
only a Ford-specific code reader can pull climate control codes. If you have
access to one, couldn't hurt, but you're probably looking at a new fan speed control.

Oddly it seems to have stopped the erratic behavior... if it starts again I'll get a get a control switch.
