well you picked a very nice shortblock for the rebuild! i've never heard a single ping from the engine since installing the lower compression short block. every so often i feel like installing the steeda 10 rib kit and upping the boosty, but i soon come back to my senses.

When it blew, it was very quiet. Sounded like a bag of gravel dropped on a cement floor. No big bang like a cast iron block.
I remember that sound. It's engraved in my memory.. forever!

The funny thing is, I could have sworn it was the vacuum hose going to the bypass valve and shutting off all the boost to the motor. Happened all the time on my old 93 Mazda RX-7 twin turbos, infamous for vacuum and coolant line issues due to the heat of the rotary..

little did I know at the time.. was not a hose it was a hole..in the block.. rod.. cracked!

8 psi and 425whp is perfect, especially for an auto.. I would have kept it at that power level, worked with the drive train to get the most power to the wheels rather than upped the boost like that.. 12 psi sounds like a lot..

Hmmm...I never heard of having to remove a supercharger in cold weather. When I lived in Maine I had an "00 Buick Regal GS. I drove it for 3 years and never had a problem. I did change the oil once though...

I need to comeback to these threads when I think I need more power.
Seems like the clock is ticking when you go SC with the 4.6

lol no doubt.. I went boost crazy when I first got my Vortech. High strung boost at that. If it was a roots or twin screw, I think I would have been a lot happier (off the line at least). Even with 10 psi, I ended up wanting 12.. even 15. Not with the stock motor.. no way.. boost is waaay too addicting! lol

When I switch to a TVS, I may end up going with 8 psi and not the 10 I had intended, or possibly even stay as low as 5-6 psi...
