Default R2300 and gears?

Old school noob question here, but do you all think 3.31s are way too long for a Roush R2300 @10 psi (460-480whp), a 3k high stall torque converter and one piece driveshaft?

I have 4.10s now with the Vortech HO @10 psi and it's pretty bad at WOT from a dead stop and from a low roll for that matter.

I am thinking about swapping back the 3.31s for better traction, mid range and top end (longer 4th gear power band with OD off to prevent going into final gear with boost)

Working with VMP on getting a very low boost tune for the winter time as well

1/4 mile times aren't important as having a smooth running and powerful ride from ANY mph and gear, yes, even from a dead-stop on street tires...

I would go with 3.55s with FI. I can't imagine how fast your 1st gear is gone with 4.10s...

I like my setup and hopefully it wont rain tomorrow and I can write back with how the car performed at the track.

hmm.. never thought about 3.55s honestly, could be a decent set up.

My 4.10s/auto is killer with street tires at the track, but oddly enough with MT ET streets they hook just fine. The only drawback was the stock converter not being able to flash quickly enough.

With the TVS and all that instant torque, it's gonna be havoc on the street tires/4.10s.. I am assuming the broader gears will take advantage of the broad torque range,,

Keep us posted, pretty sure you'll get some excellent times

I really like my 373's although I need more meat in the back to be quite honest. I wouldn't trade the 373's for anything at this point.

Do you have the 8 psi pulley of the 10 psi pulley?

I am thinking of running 10 psi for the summer and 5 for the winter, but also considering only 8 due to longevity reasons.

What's your top end like with the 3.73s?? Mine is 135mph@6200 rpm and it gets there QUICK.. that's the only thing I don't like about it. It's literally begging for another gear, but we all know what happens with boost and final drive (BOOM!)

I was thinking, IF I do go with the 10 psi pulley, I'll also do the AFCO dual fan heat exchanger to keep things super cool.

3.31s would be overkill I am assuming lol

I haven't had it up that high yet lol, still running the 5-6 psi pulley, plan to change that but no funds at the moment.

5 psi?! Not bad, I read on FnSweet that you were running 13.0@108mph.. pretty stout if you ask me, especially with 3.73's.

I was running 12.8@108mph but with 4.10s, non-intercooled @8 psi..

if you had the 8 psi tune, you'd be in the mid 12's very easily

Maybe mid 11's with the 10 psi tune, MT ET Streets and a good 93 octane tune.

I remember your first impressions thread about when you first got the R2300 and how much more powerful it felt... 5 psi is supposed to be my "winter tune" lol so much for that idea!

I want to up the boost for next year, gonna try and get to the track more often next year as well. It'll work if you feather the gas pedal but yeah mine stays in the garage when rains this year I want to try some DR's next year as well, high 11's low 12's on the stock block would be outstanding for me

Yet again it has rained and the track has cancelled the wild wednesday event. I think I have one more shot before the track is done for the year. Really does suck as I have been looking forward to this. I may have to research the area to see if there are any near me as this is getting old quick.
