Default 6 Speed Swap

To begin with... My apologies for making probably the 6 billionth post on this topic. Furthermore, apologies for spelling and random letters if they appear. My keyboard is shooting craps.

I was wondering what the difficulties would be in swapping my 5 speed manual from my 06 GT for a 6 speed manual out of a new 5.0 - or - if there were any 6 speeds that would be easier than out of a new 5.0

My friend was going on and on about the benefits of a 6 speed (he has a new 5.0 and did have an 07 GT)

So I was wondering if I could get further information as far as problems, benefits, and costs involved.

Thanks

The T5 is a rock solid and proven transmission. Sure it is a little "outdated" but it works for what our cars are intended for: fun. Besides that, problems are starting to pop up with some of the new 6 speeds. If you really want a 6 speed, I would look into an aftermarket (and proven one) that easily fits to the 4.6 3V.

Okay, glad to know about those issues

I hear you get better MPG's with 6 speeds

My thing is I think I might have to get a new transmission in the next year or 2. It (or something) makes a random knock in 5th gear when I'm on the highway every so often, when I'm not touching the clutch. It isn't something I feel - and it shifts and all just fine - runs great - but I'm getting a bit concerned about it and I figure if I'm going to get a new one, I'm going to put in a 6 speed if the benefits are as I've heard

The T5 is the V6 manual trans. The GTs have the 3650, which is a much better unit.

What about the T6060 out of the GT500?

^this, aren't people running into issues with the chinese made transmissions in the 5.0?
I plan on doing the swap to 6-speed at some point and to me it's the tr-6060 or nothing. Steeda has a kit with it.

1st I'm glad I'm not alone in my consideration

And 2nd if it were up to me I'd make the phrase "Made In China" illegal.

You said Steeda has a kit? Got a link to it? It'd be much appreciated

My bad. I wasn't thinking. Either way, both tried and true. But I would recommend the T6060 as well.

Errrrrrrr... the T5 has been tried all right, and I wouldn't call it true.
Also primitive unit compared to the 3650...

And I agree, the 6060 is the better option.
Costly, but worth it.

Its looking like a 5000 dollar (aka long term) project.

You guys said the pre 2010 Cobras use it? I wonder if I could get one out of a wreck for decently cheap... I have an uncle that rebuilds transmissions...
