Default What tensioner are you running on your supercharged GT?

Ive been hearing a lot about people throwing belts especially on the whipples.

From what i understand its because they re use the stock tensioner but modify it slightly

is anyone running an aftermerket tensioner? Does it help?

I know steeda do a whole system but its well over 1200k. thats a bit much.

I have however seen this one that caught my eye:

I'm running the thump racing one (except with a 90mm pulley). On the steeda, they weld an aluminum pate to the stock tensioner, the thump is all billet aluminum. Not sure if it matters all that much but my mind was a bit more at ease with a solid piece rather than a modified piece.

Stock tensioner with with Edelbrock's bolt-in tensioner brace.
So far so good. No belt shenanigans.

I run that Steeda heavy duty. I'm not sure if it helps with throwing belt on a Whipple. I was told to use one because you can twist or break the stock tensioner with a S/C.

Stock tensioner for 5-1/2 years with no issues.

I have had no issues with a UPR Billet Tensioner on my Vortech V3 equipped car. In the picture shown it has a UPR Pulley, I am currently using a Carmen Goudey custom 76mm billet pulley.

Belt slipped like a **** on the stock tensioner after just 2 track days and some street fun (about 9 months or so). Switched to Roush and haven't had an issue (to include 7 track days, road trips and numerous street parlays) over the course of a year.

I actually bent my stock tensioner at the drag strip. Replaced it with a thump_rrr. The Thump really is the ***** best tensioner you can buy, but it's not a cheap item.

The stock tensioner is too weak for handling the excessive changes in belt tension on with blowers, especially during shifts with a manual transmission (autos are not as bad but have similar issues).

I run a Roush one on my automatic, but also have a thumprr one that I bought as was going to use (will probably sell it for like 175 here soon).

Get some kind of upgrade over stock.
