Yes, double checked on highway today, warm weather warm tires. Got General Exclaim UHP, they stick to a smooth highway like a glue, whole front jerks up when I power shift from 1st to 2nd no wheel-spin. Now I don't worry about tires, hope the frame and clutch/mounts hold up lol:-)

Nitto's are awesome tires! And everyone here talking about LCAs are right in that they'll help. I have a set of Nitto NT555 tires on my Roush 18x10 wheels. Dry performance they are amazing; they are pretty good in wet, BUT pretty bad in snow/ice (Obviously cause they are summer high performance). They also look very beefy and the tread looks good. Here's a pic to help iterate all of what I said.

Cold ambient temps, improper tire pressure, winter road grit, and aftermarket gears(3.73's/4.10's) will cause major tire slippage.
My GT has replacement Pirelli's the same size as the stock OEM's and 3.55's, and the only time it gets squirrely during a 1-2 shift is if the road is either wet or coated with grit, or the ambient temps are cold(30's or below).

My setup gets traction like crazy. As in even when it's cold, I'm lucky if I chirp the tires going into 2nd gear, and the thing launches very well, and is straight as an arrow. Also keep in mind, I have around 400hp at the crank.

Suspension mods are: Strut tower brace and a-arm brace (don't let the 'experts' on forums tell you those do nothing. Anything to help transfer power to the wheels rather than twisting the chassis helps you go faster, and allows for straighter launches. Plus I've experienced their benefits first hand), lca's, uca (also helps with keeping straight), and a swarr bar (aka rear axle brace.) I'm running sumitomo stock size tires, 235/55 r17.

As far as wider tires, they can help to a certain degree, but what's a lot more important is the tire compound. I prefer running something that I can still drive when it rains (wide tires aren't good in those conditions), and the softer compound the sumitomo's have really helps. I will say that a very high percentage of my traction overall comes from the tires, but it's the rest of the suspension that works hand in hand, and keeps the car going straight.

You don't need wide tires, what you need is high performance tires, instead of those all season spin machines. I'm still using 235/55/17's and manage just fine.

I run Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 tires and I'm loving them. Good grip - but not too much.
