Perhaps this is the restorer vs modder battle? I would rather mod than restore a car. To say there is no replacement for displacement is crazy since you do not set up what it is exactly that is being replaced. To you it is a feeling of rush. My counter is, if you don't feel a rush, you're not in the right car. The largest engine I've ever driven was a 455 in a GTO. Fun? Sure. Biggest rush I've ever felt driving? No. My biggest rush was from driving a twin turboed v6 that made 642rwhp on a mustang dyno at last check in. Go ahead, flame it all you want but the GTO had nothing on the rush I felt when that car slammed me in the seat. Sound? Does sound give you a rush. That same V6TT sounded like a stock car from a Sprint Cup race (and I've been in the pits for 10 so far).

It's all a matter of opinion and you sir, are entitled to one. When people tell me they don't make cars like they use to my answer is you're right, they make them better.

Also, the Aston Martin is a 5.9L, does that constitute a big block? Definitions there are fuzzy

No replacement for displacement huh?

Let's compare:
2013 Corvette ZR1
427 cu in supercharged V8
638 hp
604 ft lbs

2013 Shelby GT500
351 cu in supercharged V8
650 hp
600 ft lbs

* I know I could have compared the GT500 to the Camaro ZL1, but the ZR1 makes more hp.

N/A?
2013 Camaro SS
427 cu in
426 hp
420 ft lbs

2013 Boss Mustang
302 cu in
444 hp
380 ft lbs

And this is a comparison basically between current pushrod technology and current DOHC technology. The pushrod engines from the late 60's/early 70's don't hold a candle to the current pushrods. Hell, a new V6 Mustang can outperform most all muscle cars from that era!

Don't forget that horsepower ratings before 1973 are gross hp while hp ratings after 1973 are net hp... big difference.
