Just got the Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season's. So far I am very happy with the handling and wet weather traction.

The P Zero Nero is the stock tire that came on my GT when I bought it new in '06. They were indeed good tires, but I wanted better performance and decided to "upgrade" to BFG KDW2 tires, and must say that in my life, I have never driven a better road-hugging tire than those. That said, they are not made for winter driving, so if you're looking for an all-season tire, you can ignore my praise. But if you park your Stang in the garage during winter (like me) and only need something for rain and sunshine, the KDW is absolutely phenomenal.

We used KDW's on the 300ZX and they were terrible and didn't feel like they were gripping at all.

That's interesting because I thought they gripped like crazy, even in the rain AND the one time I raced it on a track. Just goes to show you, though, all products are subject to different reviews and opinions. What one person loves, another won't, and vice versa.

I finally made my choice and chose the Michelin PS2 285/40-18 in the rear and 255/40-18 in the front. I ordered them and I'll let you know my first impressions as soon as I get a chance to try them. They should look good on my FR500 =P
Thank you everybody for your advice!

I hope you got the new Pilot Super Sports. They are the bomb!

I finally got the Michelin Pilot Sport Plus 275/40 (they don't make 285/40!) in the rear and 255/40 in front. My first impression are very good, expensive but good!

Tires in general aren't cheap anymore though. I just bought some Michelin's for my F150 and dropped $1025 on 'em....and that was through CostCo! I checked TireRack and they were cheaper per tire, but with shipping and having to pay an installer, CostCo actually saved me $120. But I digress! I love my Michelin's -- REALLY quieted down the ride in my truck and they also grip very well. It's a different model than the PS tires you bought, but if you're anywhere near as happy with yours on the Mustang as I am with mine on the truck, you made a great purchase! Enjoy!

I think the main thing is matching the tire for use, to include the amount of power a tire is handling. I'm estimating your car around 300rwhp. The 300zx on the other hand is making upwards of 642rwhp (last check on a Mustang dyno). We switched to the Advan AD08s which is a super soft compound which is really only good for 10k miles and warmer weather and they grip like I've never felt before.
