Well, today was a beautiful day here in Bama and I decided it was the perfect time to change my transmission fluid and my fuel filter @ 45K miles.

First, let's get the car up in the air. This was my first time lifting the front so finding my favorite stand points was interesting...




I decided on using RP for the trans. fluid and, thanks to Moosestang's excellent How To, tackled this in under 20 minutes. The hardest part of this job is reaching the fill plug.

So far, I can feel a pretty noticeable improvement in trans. temp and ease of shifting. I now longer feel like I'm shifting gears in a tractor. Just. Freakin. Smooth.

After that, I tackled the fuel filter. Very easy and straightforward job. (Just don't get fuel in your face)

As for anyone on the fence about changing your filter. This is one of two separate puddles of crap that came out of the fuel filter. It was very clogged.




So that was it for today. Next time, Spark plugs.

Good choice. Synchromax has been very good to me. Our fuel filters definitely get crudded up very easily. I change mine yearly.

I changed my fuel filter around 35k I believe and since they are so cheap it's a no brainer not to change them more often. I paid $7 at Advanced Auto, and now I get them for free at my workplace.

How was the color of your ATF at 45k? I replaced mine around 35k as well, and it was just starting to get a dark ting.

You should unbolt your throttle body and wipe it down with TB cleaner and a nice rag, if you haven't done so yet.

I enjoy this kind of maintenance. I was under my car today grinding down my swaybar brackets......they were a smidge too close for comfort to my new 17x10 race wheels.

Working on the mustang is a great day IMO....

The factory ATF was DARK. It wasn't sludgy, just looked very dingy. Shifts are substantially better now and even though I don't see the correlation, clutch engagement just feels smoother in general. I'm sure that is all in my head though.
