I agree that the price vs. output on an otherwise stock motor should make aftermarket heads a low priority for anyone, but everyone is telling you that heads are an expensive waste on a N/A car and no-one has stated a reason. And it bothers me that no-one asks.

I have aftermarket heads( technically I have p&p'd factory heads) and the biggest difference that I noticed on my car is that they absolutely killed the low RPM torque with my cam, intake, and exhaust selection. I had all of those things installed at the same time, so I can't comment specifically on what the heads alone are good for, but my setup combined with the low barrometric pressure at 6000' elevation is less than ideal for daily driving. At higher RPM, the engine just roars, but I feel like I have to wind it up pretty good just to get rolling from a stop. Fifth gear is virtually useless unless I'm cruising on a flat at speeds greater than 70mph.

That being said, I have bigger plans for my motor that should finally start to come together this spring, and already having the heads ported and polished is a big step in the right direction.

If you don't see yourself ever going big with the motor, one of the myriad of aftermarket forced induction solutions should be everything you need to spend your money on when it comes to making power. Aftermarket heads might open up some potential for you once you have forced induction, but you will still be constrained by the limits of the stock rods and pistons.

Are you asking me about what kind of heads and cams to buy? Too many variables to consider, street car or track car, if street car daily driver?

I chose whipple, but at that time you could get their high output intercooler kit for $5700. It was the only complete kit at the time, meaning it came with everything you needed plus the gt500 fuel pumps. People run blowers with the stock pump, but I would not.

Now the whipple kit is $1,000 more and I'm not sure what other complete kits are out there. I would get a twin screw though. If I were buying today, it would be between whipple and roush tvs2300.
