I'm not particularly surprised by that. However if I ever do get around to building my engine, having pipes that size would be nice, as I'll probably stroke it to a 302. Brenspeed has a pretty nice preassembled lower.
Even a 302 isn't going to need a full 3" exhaust.
Maybe if you go with the 326, but you'll be leaving power on the table with a 3" header.
No the S197 mustang has McPherson struts for front suspension. SLA stands for short arm long arm. It's the dual A arm front suspension. It cambers your wheels into the direction you're turning. Pretty slick stuff.
There actually is an IRS kit for the S197, but Griggs recommended against it.
Ah, I thought you were talking about the rear axle. Thank you for clarifying.
Rear lower control arms are the first must on suspension!
Maybe follow that with new balljoints and an anti bump steer kit. JMO
So IF I did LCAs, I would probably order a Heim/Urethane jointed Watts link from Griggs as well as ball joint LCAs. That actually may work out well because I need to change out my gears as well.
By the way, I will GIVE my 4.10s that are in my car now that have like 5,000 miles on them to anyone that will do/help with the swap and can do high quality work.

No kidding. I'd do it in half a day and a case of beer for that. Watts links are awesome, but as I'm finding out with mine, they take some serious tweaking to get just right. Totally worth it, just my experience.
