Default JBA Axle Backs

Hey guys. I bought my car used 7 months ago, and when I bought it it had JBA axle-backs installed with what I believe is a 3.5 or 4 inch tip. I looked on AM and saw bad reviews. I notice they have a drone at 2k RPM or under, but the car otherwise sounds good to me. Of course it was already on the car, so there's not much else I have experience with in driving and living with daily.

Does anyone else have an opinion on these? The only thing I can say is they really aren't very loud. If you're near me, most people would like the sound, but it isn't loud from afar. I want to change that possibly in the spring. I want to go to a similar sound, but louder.

I loved mine when I had them on. They sounded good under throttle and really didn't drone at all. I agree with you that they aren't very loud which is why I switched to Mac Boomtubes. One day when I swap out my headers and midpipe I'll probably go back to the JBA's.

My other complaint is that the tips stuck out a bit more than I would have liked. I believe that's not longer the case now that JBA has changed the tips to a larger diameter.

I had JBA's and they were good. I liked they were quiet when I was cruising, the only concern I had is after 2 years the internals started falling apart.

Exhaust tone is subjective to say the least. Also on this car everything changes the tone. Headers, cams, offroad midpipe and even supercharging all will change the tonal characteristics. Its the combo that you have to find that works for your desired tone. If you plan to add any of the above mods I would suggest to leave you axlebacks alone. I know this cause I have changed mine 6 times.

I've never heard these before, but if your planning to change any other exhaust or some intake parts then the sound and tone will change as well. If your into a clean sound, I recommend Flowmaster Hushpowers (I think they're aka pro series). I had them and they were mildly loud.

Not entirely sure how the JBA's are constructed but they might be like my Aerochambers...they're sort of equivalent to a 2-chamber, but quieter. I'd imagine mine would be pretty quiet with stock cats. High flow cats will give you the sound you want without being too loud.
