GT '06 oil change interval.

GT '06 oil change interval.
Although the owner's manual for my 2006 GT recommended oil changes every 5,000 miles, for the 2007 GT I read something from Ford which said that the proper oil change interval was 7,000 miles. As far as I know, there is no difference between the '06 and '07 models. So is the proper oil change interval for my model year 7,000 miles, and Ford never retroactively corrected, so dealers wouldn't lose business? Or is there a difference between the '06 and '07 models I'm not aware of that would make for an extra 2,000 miles between oil changes for the '07? Anybody know?

I don't believe the year or engine would be driving the oil change interval. I would assume its based purely on the oil you use. I personally use Mobilone fully synthetic extended life. It claims 15000 miles on an oil change, but I won't take it over 7,500 miles with 5000 miles being my preference.

It depends on how **** you are, how much you believe the folklore of frequent oil changes, how knowledgeable you are about oil, your past experiences, blah-blah-blah.
I run dino oils 3k-4k miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.
I run blends 5k-7k miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.
I run full syns 8k-12k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.
Every car I've owned (13?) that went over 200k miles (6?) did not burn or use oil and ran superb when I sold them. All 3 of my tow vehicles used full syn at the above frequencies.
As or more importantly, be sure to use a quality oil filter that can handle the extended mileage. Amsoil's eA filters are rated for 25k miles, IIRC but I never ran one beyond 14k miles.

I only run my car in the summer and put about 7000 miles on it and I change it in the fall when I put it to bed. As mentioned use a good filter (not Fram) and any Synthetic that is on sale. I do it myself and like crawling around under the car, so it is not a cost issue but rather peace of mind.
Also I always think of the 'recommended' change intervals. I believe more often is better. When Ford recommends an interval, just who's best interest is it in anyway? Once warranty is over - they'd rather you buy a new vehicle than have your Stang last nicely into it's old age. Remember - it's cheaper to change oil than change parts.

I use Wix Filters and am happy with the quality. I think you'll find most people will recommend "Anything but Fram". Google some reviews and have a look for yourself. The 'good' filters aren't really much more $$ than Fram ones.
