Default Great! Made some minor mods and car won't run.

I am pretty frustrated. Installed an Airraid CAI today and then uploaded tunes (plural because of problems) to the car with a Bama X4.

A little bit about the tunes: I ordered the tuner with 91 octane tunes. I got it delivered like that. I then realized 93 octane is available here so I contacted Bama and got 93 tunes.

I tried all tunes; 93 and 91 street, performance, and racing and the car will not run on any of them. It starts and then dies. To say I am pissed off is an understatement. I spent all this money and time and the damn car doesn't even run. I know the CAI is installed correctly; very easy to install. I updated the tuner as soon as I got it and I downloaded the second set of tunes IAW Bama instructions. So where the problem is, I do not know. And to top this off, Airraid specifically states that a tune is necessary for the CAI or engine damage may result. So now I have this thing installed and can't run the car unless I take it off and return the car to the original state.

Anybody have any ideas on what the heck might be the issue? I have read that using the tuner is very simple and I agree with its simplicity. But why the heck is the car unable to run now? I am at the point where I should just package all this stuff up and send it back as it does not work as advertised.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, forgot: 2005 GT Convertible.

MAF isn't installed backwards/upside down, is it? Not unheard of.

Hmmm, not sure. I thought I put it in the same as the picture in the instructions. Worth a shot. Thanks.

Yeah, it was installed correctly. I know this from the picture and how the electrical connector is oriented.

unplug it and try to start the car. The PCM should default to the failed MAF table and by-pass the MAF transfer set in the tune. If it runs, that will show that the tune is incorrect

Ok, did that and yes, it does run. It idles a little high, just over 1000 RPM. But it does stay running and doesn't die.

ok, then the MAF transfer function table is wrong in the tunes for that CAI. When writing a tune, you have to tell the PCM how much air is entering the engine to correlate with the different levels of voltage the MAF sensor is putting out. Seriously, That is 95% of tuning. Obviously it is wrong in the tunes they sent you. Call Bama tomorrow and get them to straighten it out. They should, but if they can't, remember the PM I sent. Good luck, man. Let me know how you make out. Where in Mass. are you?

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see jpplaw is getting you back on track.

Definitely give them a call so they can rework the tune. This happens on occasion to people and is almost always resolved with a few retunes.

Hey Trooper - Sorry to hear about the trouble here! This has peen a pretty common issues recently and I wanted to ask if you've had the reduction sleeve removed from your Cold Air Intake?

Take a look over on The Bama Help Center: "..Installed a CAI and now my car turns off.." as I think it might help!

I shot you a PM in the meantime as well so I can work with one of the Bama Tuning Specialists to shoot you a call. Even if it's something that's installation related I'm happy to work with them to get you the help you need here!

Hang in there we'll get this fixed up for you today!

Alex

Alex, I just took the CAI off the car and the MVT mentioned in your link is not installed on this CAI.
