IAT Sensor replacement question

IAT Sensor replacement question
I installed a 03/04 Cobra IAT sensor in my intake for custom tuning purposes when I put on the whipple about 3 years ago. I've been using the provided ford racing tune so the IAT sensor has never been wired in. I am finally looking to get a custom tune done. The sensor has never been used but I imagine it's probably got nice coat of oil residue on it by now.
My question is how often do these sensors need to be replaced?
I mounted the IAT sensor at the back of the manifold and will be dropping the k-member for a clutch swap, so this would be a good opportunity to get at the sensor if it should be replaced.

A lot of tuners suggest putting in the IAT after the intercooler as opposed to having it on air intake tube with the MAF; which is how a few different PD blowers are setup. Mounting an IAT post-intercooler allows the computer to delay the timing if there's an issue with the intercooler and the air temp gets too hot.
I am regretting mounting that thing behind the compressor, it's a pain to get at. But I'll probably check to see how it looks anyways. If it looks a little gunked up I'll take jpplaw's advice and use a little MAF cleaner.
As for the clutch change, If I get access to a lift I'll just clock it out. If I'm stuck with jack stands I'll definitely try to clock it out but might have to resort to the k-member drop if clearance become an issue. Either way with the transmission out it' should be a little easier to get at the sensor.
