Default 2006 GT alternator clutch

So I had the P0340 code for the cam sensor and found out that the alternator may be the cause. I went to Advance Auto, they tested it and it showed "open diode". So I went to my favorite online vendor American Muscle and seen the SR Performance 150 amp alternator part number 100608.

http://www.americanmuscle.com/sr-135amp-alternator-0508gt.html

I thought that would be a good replacement/upgrade. Ford's was $383 and it's a clutch style alternator, which I clearly see on mine. So I called AM and asked if the SR performance had a clutch on it and the rep said no, she said the only things that used a clutch is an air conditioning compressor. I told her I can see the clutch on mine and Ford said it is a clutch type. She said I was wrong. So I called around a few local auto parts stores and they have alternators with clutches on them! So what's the deal do I need this clutch? Do I have a clutch on my alternator or is it something else? 2006 GT 4.6 automatic.

It's the pulley that is clutched, you just need to move it over from your existing alternator if you want the clutched functionality (it's not necessary, just prevents belt slip on deceleration I think). There's a special clutch pulley tool you can get to do the swap.

call it a "1 way clutch" and you will avoid the confusion with the ac clutch
